I am buying a gooseneck trailer in a couple of weeks to haul my junk around so I need a hitch. Do I go with the B&W turnover or the Hidden hitch?:help:

Go with B&W. I have both and have had to weld the Hidden Hitch after it started to come apart on our 3500 dually. The B&W is a more solid hitch IMO.

I have a B&W and I like it. Very strong design and it works well. The installation is fairly easy with the toughest thing being trusting that the dimensions are correct for the 4" hole in the bed! That is a hard one to drill but it fits like a glove.

The B&W is nice and strong. After taking measurements just cut the hole with a 4" hole saw for a neat cut.
I also had the linex sprayed in afterwards and everything is sealed up with a nice factory look.

Also B&W. On my 3rd one. I have 1 left over from my 04 dually if anyone is interested. Would not fit my 2500.

Got a B&W and pleased with it. Only thing that needs to be addressed is the paint. Looks like crap after one winter.

I go with the B&W as well. I have had two now on different rigs. No problems or issues.

Has anyone here used a Curt turnover ball yet? If so I have a couple of questions.

Another one for B&W. Another nice option, if you ever buy a 5th wheel, the companion hitch is available.

I have used the B&W in two different trucks, works great as long as you remember to lock the ball back in place after you turn it over to hook up.. My next hitch will be the "pop up brand" smaller hole in the bed and no worries about it coming out from your forgetfulness.):h They also have an adapter for fifth wheels too.

I just did the install on my brothers 01HD with him and to be honest I was not impressed with the design. The cross bracing and the plate were fine but the side plates are held on with a u bolt and 1 large bolt and are 2 peice design. It must be fine as plenty of installed hitches out there but it did get me thinking.
I will now look to see how the model for my truck installs before I buy it.

Buddy just installed a pop up in his dodge, mechanism looked sorta cheesy to me, ball is supported by only one small pin, not a through pin like the b&m. He's had no problems with it so maybe it's just me. I like to see solid looking parts when I'm towing around 25K worth of show animals

B&W here. I know they will pull 25k...... I do not recommend it, for the truck. Although the paint is very thick it does looks like crap after 1 season. Having a spray liner installed after the hitch is in, does make it look really nice. I have the first design, the single steel plate. I'm not sure why the two-piece is the standard now?

edit .....I liked the B&W beacuse I like the design. One of the things that I liked, the ball come out. I get all kinds of dirt, rocks, loose nuts, wire and general funk in the back of my truck. Take ball out, wash crud out and reinstall ball. There are no springs, hinges or pinch points that can packed with trash.:D

That popup hitch you are talking about is junk. I had one on a f250 and about a month after I had it installed it became a two man job to get it to pop up one in the bed and one at the wheelwell. Took it back to the installer twice before I finally gave up and lived with it, but not for long because I also hated the truck.

B & W, clean install, will pull 30K, (don't ask, I can't tell, warranty ya know) LOL, I have pulled my trailer @ 20k and my Fith wheel with the Companion @ 18k for 4 years now and I just installed the same setup in the 05 and my Buddy's power choke. A friend has the uni-goose and it is ok but not as heavy as the B & W.

Have a gooseneck hitch in my '94. Can't say what brand it is - came with the truck when I bought it. It's a pop-up (pull a hinged tab, ball tips up, and tab folds down locking ball in place.) Goofy thing about it is, there are no provisions for safety chains or or a break-away connection. I'm looking to adding safety chain attachment points, but may end up going to a B&W in the end (too bad I already have a 3 1/2" x 8" hole in the bed!)

Where do you guys connect your breakaway cable to? I'm installing one of these in my new '05 and was looking for options.

I hook mine inside the hook. My cable is just shy of the chain length. If the chain ever becomes too tight, brakes are "ON". I had rather trash my truck than hurt someone else.

wi65td,
i had the same kind of hitch in my 98 2500. it was in the truck when i bought it. it was also rusted or sandlocked in the up position. made hauling anything flat a pain. Tried a sledge, Wd-40, scredriver, any thing you can think of to get that thing to lay down. traded that truck after about a year and a half and it was still up. pulled good tho.
I put a B&W turnover ball in my 03, it was really nice. and a clean install too. that will be what goes in my current truck when i get a chance to put it in.

SSDuraMaxx,

What did you do for chain and breakawy connections on your previous setup? The unit it have and mentioned earlier, functions without a problem - just no where to hook chains or a breakaway to.

I made 1700 mile trip with my 32' 5er this week. My wife complained about my truck porpoising the entire way. I removed it today and installed a Pullrite slider 16k.

Both B&W and Cequent Towing (Reese, Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch) make nice goosenecks with very clean installs. The Cequent Towing product I know is a no drill app. Not sure on the B&W one. The one nice thing about the Cequent one is that if you have the extra rib on the truck bed you do not have to cut it out like on some gooses.

wi65td,
didnt have any chain hookups on that setup so they didnt get hooked up. Matter of fact, i don't think my horse trailer had any safety chains either (it was kind of old). didn't use the gooseneck ball much tho, used the fith wheel hitch to tow the 35' fith wheel travel trailer.
