On the ranch we had a 95 3500 GMC with a 454 and a 5spd. My dad and I have had the arguement over what the trans was. He says that it was a true five speed. 5th gear 1:1. I say it was an overdrive trans. NV4500? What did that model of pickup come with?

Look at the RPO codes on the sticker in the glovebox. Chances are you will see the code MW3 which stands for the NV4500 transmission. 4th gear is 1:1, 5th is overdrive.

I also say it should have been a NV4500. I don't know of any other 5spd options behind a 454.
