This little diddy is something I dreamt up about 2 hours ago... here is the finished product. Actually looking for the problems associated with it...what will or might go wrong with the install regarding fuel management....

Couldnt get the dang pics to load here on the DP... so I hosted it on another site.... here

Well, the ghetto cold air is in.... It is resting behind the front bumper facing the back side of the air dam. At idle, you can feel a significant amount of air being drawn into the tube, at 1200 rpm fast idle, it seems to double in vacuum pressure. So the OEM design seems to give way to the new and improved ghetto design. probably due to the ghetto tube being 3 " from the air filter and the OEM port is like 4 inches and on the side. I cant tell if the mod mades any significant improvements..... but if the big Cold air intake companies claim 10 or 15 horse gain from thier design, this HAS to at least give that much. And its still stock!!

Did you end up cutting a hole in the support bracket to run the dryer vent?

What about running one of them in-line duct fans to 'force' the air in???

No I left the support bracket out when putting things back together. The air box "floats" in position.

As for a 'forced" air induction.....I came across a Nissan 240 about a year ago with a forced induction fan in the intake... the Fuel management couldnt tell based on the provided air whether the car was WOT or idle.. so the engine usually stalled out with it.....I suppose one would work with a switch of some sort, when your on it, turn the fan on..... but then again the ghetto mod does just thatwithout a switch or a fan. :D

New To -- there has been a good bit of discussion on the LLY forum I did do some testing, not sure how much you've read but the included thread is current

I would also imagine that just punching the hole in the bottom of the air box and not even messin with the dyer vent would help out alot. I have done this with a '97 formula after seeing what a $180 cold air kit gives you--I made my own.

There have been a few companies build something like this for the gas version truck but the problem was to much water sucked into the air filter so they were discontinued a few years back. It works fine in dry weather but if your out 4 wheeling and hit a water pocket or are in rain it could cost you a motor. AEM had a special insert you could get for the ricers that would open a separate air path when moisture hit it but I don't know if it ever worked out.

my friend with a chevy gas did that same thing even cut out where his fog lights should be and ran the dryer vent there and put a screan on it. i know it gave him more power. the only thing is it makes a very dirty circle where it comes in to the air box. it is a good i dea though

At the Home depot and Lowes hardware, they have 4" PVC pipe that could be used. Cut the round hole in the empty fog log area and you'b be set.

interesting about the gate... that was on my testing list, a blast gate from my wooodworking shop... was the ricer version drive off a servo? did it shut automaticly or manually?

i think the new trailblazers SS does the same thing by putting holes in the what was the chrome part of the grill to make vents for fresh air.

new2 ---The r-cold/ram air mod has over 1000 miles on it... seems very durable. Temps here in the burgh have been really low, so getting cool air to the airfilter isnt an issue, now that temps are going up, and Im setting up for a 1800 mile trip, Ill do some extensive testing, measuring enigne/EGT temps with and without intake installed. I dont suppose itll effect EGT's but might get 10 -20 degrees off the engine temp. Will post more in a few days.
