Okay after reading over this post and seeing member wzqlbgk (member.php?u=6198) 's truck

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12153

I went out and bought everything to convert my truck from a stock 2002 GMC front to a Denali front

- so now - I have the front end off my truck and the Denali front placed on there - and I have a gap between the bottom of the grille & the top of the bumper of around 3" or so. I was thinking of just creating some ~3" tall spacers to raise the bumper up, but was looking for a more elegant solution.

I can't seem to get ahold of wzqlbgk - to learn how he did it - anyone have any ideas or at least know what the height difference between an HD frame and 1/2 frame is? (i.e. is it 3" or 3.25" or?)

Thanks

Your problem is being created by a factory body lift. They did that to clear the Allison. Sorry I'm not more help, just thought you'd like to know.

Common misconception "factory body lift". The frames are different, the HD being taller. The HD suspension it also a bit beefier, making the truck sit higher. To keep the bumper lower for federal requirements, the use different mounts to make it sit lower. You can cut the HD bumper mounts off and replace them with the 1500 ones to correct the problem....

on edit: FLdmax explained this when he swaped to an SS bumper, you should be able to find it with the search feature.

Well I got this far...

I had to cut some of the core support away, nothing structural (I hope)

And also had to trim the Denali inner bumper a little - I really would like to be able to return this truck to stock if need be, so I don't really want to cut off my brackets and re-weld them.

I'm thinking if I make some U-shaped brackets that will bolt on top of the existing frame mount, this will bump up the bracketry enough to mount on to.

I did a search of FLduramax's posting - and didn't find anything other than he rewelded 1500 frame horns on the end...

The 2002 frontend is soo much nicer than the Denali - so why bother? The Denali is not really truck like at all.....but to each his own!
