Been monitoring last 7 regens on my new Edge Insight - See a regen every 430 miles like clockwork, give or take 10 or 15 miles. Soot levels have ranged from 14 to 22 when regens start.

So yesterday 700 mile round-trip planned from Tacoma to Pullman and I knew a regen was due 60 miles into the trip. Let it do it's thing right at 430 miles since the last regen, fueled up afterwards and reset the DIC trip miles, fuel used and MPG.

Drove 250 miles right after the regen mostly 60-70 MPH including 20 miles of slow gravel roads to see Palouse Falls. (Also include a stop by the Washington State Patrol right after getting off 70 MPH I-90 onto 60 MPH Hwy 26 doing 73 on cruise control in a 60 - Just got a warning bless him. First time pulled over in like 2 decades - usually smart enough to set cruise at 4 or 5 over, but was thinking this road's speed limit has to about change. Nope speed limit only increased to 65 a bit later).

Hand calc for those 250 miles in the "no-regen zone" was 20 MPG - sweet. Finished the trip with 1 more regen - again right at 430 miles since the last regen - hand calc with that 1 regen included 19 MPG. DIC MPG showed 19.1 MPG - First time I noticed those both so close to agreement.

We go back Monday same trip, it will include 1 or 2 regens. Usually get 18 MPG must be with 2 regens - so we will see if that holds true.

First 10K average MPG = 18 Hwy … 15 City … 12 Towing

First 20K average MPG = 18 Hwy … 15 City … 12 Towing

So when does the magical "break-in" MPG increase happen anyways…….. LMM 2500HD CC - STONE STOCK

New off the lot I got 17 MPG same trip - Been getting 18 MPG same trip since 2K…… Based on that I would have to say mine did it's break-in during the first 2K…...

That's exactly about what I see with my truck. I haven't seen it get too much better yet either. I have just shy of 25,000 miles.

If your getting 12mpg towing, be happy, unless your not towing a lot of weight, that isn't a bad mpg for towing. I don't have anything to monitor my regens with, except..me, they happen, almost like clockwork, approx. every 380-400 miles. I have almost 18,000 on my truck, it's a dually, depending on the time of year, I get better mpg when it's warmer with summer blend as opposed to colder temps. with the winter blend of diesel.
Truck is completely stock and runs and tows sig. 5er great, don't really need any more power, got all I need. I usually get anywhere from 10-11 mpg, whether in the mountains or on "flat land", on occasion better, sometimes a little worse, I tow between 55-60 mph, I'm in no hurry and that's where I get my best mpg. Break-in...I'm guessing your there, if not, then I guess I'm still waiting for mine to break in.

without anything monitoring the regens, how can I tell when my truck in in regen?

I don't have anything to monitor mine with either, I just know, now, when it's going to happen. Usually sometime during a tank of fuel, it'll probably have a regen. W-A-Y back, I'd notice when I came to a stoplight or just had to stop, "sometimes", my idle would be up, at this point, I finally realized that I was in "regen". You can reset your "ave. mpg" meter and if your in regen, it'll read really crappy mpg., mine will be 7-8 mpg, once regen is over,(I just keep resetting my ave. mpg gage until it get's back up to where it was before, in the teens), I make note of the mileage and as stated above, it seems with my truck, it's around 380 miles or so. You can also smell a "bleachy" smell, at least that's my take on it. Don't know what else to tell you. If you do a lot of highway driving, I guess you might not notice a regen, but they are happening. Just have to keep an eye out for higher idle rpm and "the smell"... hope this helped.

You can certainly tell by following a truck in regen, some of you guys must have no sense of smell. My truck smells awful during regen. Yesterday we were on a roadtrip in my parents suburban and we began noticing this horrible smell, finally we caught up to an 08 furd and it was in regen and smelled horrible, i still can not believe enviro wackos think that is better than diesel before 07. I felt like like crap the rest of the day that smell just affects me badly.

Leave it to the tree huggers to think burning more fuel (for regens) is better for the enviornment.

Why on earth do you own a diesel then - with or without a DPF they all can smell - without DPF they smell ALL the time.

Just came in from the 700 mile trip Monday (18mpg round-trip this time - very windy conditions).... And the regen kicks on a couple blocks from the house. Took 3 commute warm-ups this week of 8 miles each to complete the regen.

If you have ever smelled the new Powerstroke when its in regen you wouldnt ask that question. It isnt the smell of diesel thats bothersome, its the smell when it regens. My dad had a 6.4 F450 and it is awful to be in when in regen. The gets so strong it burns your nose at times. I know what he's talking about when following a Furd in regen, its rank.

Yeah its not the smell of diesel its the smell of the regen, I am around diesels everyday I farm. I know the difference between the two.

But on your topic of regens like clockwork, I drive 1.5 miles to work everyday and there are a few days thats all i drive. I could go weeks at a time trying to regen and never getting it accomplished because the truck would not run long enough. I have seen milage around 6 doing that kind of driving.

Even after taking 3 commutes 8 miles each to regen - I will most def find an errand to run and 'Git 'er Done" next time........... I just wanted to see what it would take. Drove it 15K without ever really knowing when it did it's thing.

For such a short 1 mile commute - your rig could never complete a regen..... Get a scooter for your commute! :)
