take a screw driver and pop it through one side and through the other. that should allow you enough leverage to twist it off.

use a pretty heavy screw driver or a punch instead

Don't use a screwdriver (yet). Have you tried it with the filter and engine HOT. That will expand the metal and should make it easier to get off. I would also use a quality strap wrench around the screw base, it's thicker there and can take more pressure.

I would use a mongo size pair of channel locks in this instance. They work everytime.

Ive done this before just give it hell it doesn't matter about destroying the canister cause your changing it anyway...and X3 on the channel locks and strap wrench because thats what i always use and use them toward the screw base because its the gasket that is sticking but its a little hard getting leverage so the bottom works well also

A VISE-GRIP Chain wrench will do it ...

Those mammoth challel-locks are pricey, so if you cant spare for it, i've had good luck using two GOOD filter wrenches at the base of the filter. There's also the old timer method of using a chissel to tap it loose. The channel locks do work great though.

The vise grip chain pliers or better yet a Craftsman chain wrench. Put it as close to the base of the filter as you can get because that's where the metal is the thickest and it won't collapse. Put a pipe on the handle if you have to and it will come off. Be very careful if you try the chisel or screwdriver technique, you can do some serious damage. In 35 years of removing stuck oil filters, I've never seen one that wouldn't come off with the chain wrench and a long enough pipe.

Just get one of those filter remover/installers that look like a pair of pump pliers. They work every time and don't cost as much as channel locks.
