I'd recommend getting a Westers or Nelson tune. You can customize your truck to your preference, optimizing peak performance for your truck depending on what you use it for. That is definately the best way to improve horsepower/torque as well as recalibrate your spedo. There is also different tuning levels to choose from so you customize it for your needs. That should run about $400 but is well worth it. As far as exhaust goes you have alot of options there, i've always gone with flowmaster but there are better exhaust set-ups out there.

Well I don't know what you are running right now, but I would suggest a jump to 4.10s if you are running the 3.73s in the rear diff. That'll probably make a big difference and probably get a 1 or 2 mpg ta boot. Then you can think about an exhaust system and programmer. My $.02 worth.

Doing a PCM like Westers or Nelsons do help with performance. The only real problem is that you have to either pay the core charge of another couple hundred bucks or find another chip and send it in. If you keep your PCM in for warranty work, they can reprogram it and then all your money is shot because your computer just got set back to factory specs. The hand held programmers are good from what I have heard, but you don't get the results like you do with a PCM, but you can easily reprogram for warranty work.

ps, i want a deep spundign exaust, but not monotone!, and keep in mind i'm kinda on a budget.
I got a Gibson split dual exhaust with the 45 degree turnouts and tips. Nice sound; little on the loud side for my wife, but the sound is DEEP instead of raspy like a flowmaster. I love it.
As for tuners, find my thread on here. Most agree the programmers aren't worth the bucks. But the Nelson or Westers is more expensive if you want to return it to stock for warranty work.
