Went to the dealer about my lopey idle. I told the service manager it was probably the FPR. He told me he found the TSB on it, but when he called the maintenance line, they told him that some folks replaced the FPR, but it turned out to need an entire fuel pump replacement. I didn't want to go much further with it, until he figured out what was going on. If I have the dealer hook my truck up to the computer, will it show that the FPR needs to be replaced? Will it show a code for that part separately? Thanks.

I had mine done for the same problem last summer, but FYI the FPR is customer pay :( while the whole pump is Warranty:D . No more lope and truck runs great.

I had my fuel pressure regulator replaced under warranty due to a lopey/surging idle. I did not have any codes as it has to become very bad to throw a code. As far as seperate codes for fuel pump goes I do not know but they can do flow/volume tests to see that your pump is working ok. My problem was when I would stop for a light and be sitting there with my foot on the brake. It would happen in a certain temp range generally about 170 to 180 deg. The surging would be agravated by turning on the ac/heat but was plenty bad without.

FRPR will not set a code, it has to be diagnosed the old fashioned way
I used to replace them under the 100k warranty all the time with the deductable of course.

Mine is bad too and getting worse slowly, but not slowly enough unfortunately. I had it in the dealer and they checked it but of course couldn't get it to go loopy. The tech said they hooked up a Tech II and got no codes--funny considering that the FPR doesn't throw codes.
Mine seems more likely to start looping when in drive at a stop light without the compressor on. Anyone else have input on how to get the loop started for the dealer?
thanks!

Saw another post on this that seems to indicate that a P0089 code is thrown on a bad FPRV. Is that right?

Mine threw 2 codes when it started leaking: 1. low fuel rail pressure, 2. large fuel leak.

Did you get a check engine light?

Its very rare for the valve itself to leak. I have seen the pumps leak though

Sure did, & limp mode too.

Like dmaxalitech says... the FPR will reraly set any DTC's associated with its failure. Especially for surge at idle. If you use a tech 2 and graph actual vs. desired fuel pressure you can see the up down up down choppy graph indicating the regulator is bad. The whole pump usually only needs replacing if you have a overall pressure problem. I usually try to do the whole pump anyway. Hope this helps:)

Mine just recently started setting P0089. I knew I should have had it replaced under warranty. Now have 104k. At idle the ECM request 34 Mpa and getting 54 Mpa. Running under load is fine.
