I remember several people with LMM's having problems with their door jams squeeking. Has putting silicone on them fixed everyone's problem, or do you just ignore it? I had problems with mine and silicone didn't help at all. I've had it to the dealership three times for various other things, and they addressed the squeeking while it was there. Two of the three times, they were able to get rid of it, but it keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

Have you tried to spray wd-40 or lube

I have had luck with the white lithium grease in the past.

WD is a penitrent not a lubercant. Use Super Lube for your doors and stuff. Impervious to road salt, good for saltwater marine applicationsUSDA approved for food handling areas ETC. DON'T get it on glass. Never do that again! It comes in spary and grease for the carrier for spary will evaporate shortly after application. The best one for me was gaulled AL handle I couldn't turn the handle and sparyed it and came back an hour and ahalf later and I could move the handle with my little finger. Started using it in 1988 and I see that my 55 specs its use for doors and such. Go figure after all these years.:D

On the inside edge of the weather strips there are a bunch of little holes. Using the tube on the silicone can, spray some in each one. The weatherstrip is hollow, and the inside surfaces rub together and make the noise.

Also there is a TSB to replace the top weather strip along the rood with a new design.

After doing both things on mine it is virtually silent!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to ask my dealership about the TSB because I don't think they've replaced the top weather strip. I've lubricated the door seals before, but I didn't even think to spray the inside of them.

Do you know if the TSB only for OBS/2006 or for LMM as well?

IIRC, my owner's manual says to use silicone dielectric grease; it is normally used for electrical connections to keep water out and will stay on the rubber longer than spray on.

Good idea with spraying inside seal, thanks.

The TSB is for the LMM. I'll try to find the RO and post the number or the part number for the weatherstrips they replaced.

Shasta,
Did you find the TSB for the replacement of the weatherstrip? Mine goes in next week and I would really like to be able to give them the TSB numbers. Thanks.

Man these trucks are crazy, I have dash rattles but many do not, you have a doorsound, I do not, it seems like some of these problems are all over the place, some have this one but not that one.

From the RO: "Duplicated creaking from pillars; found PIT 4679 for this concern. Replaced both roof line w/s w/ new design. Retested concern resolved."

The mechanic did have a printed page from GM that told him to lubricate all of the door and cab weatherstrips with GM dielectric grease. If that didn't fix the noise, replace the roof line weatherstrips. He said it had just come out so that would have been in 11/08 or so.

HTH

Edit: This was at the end of the RO: "Operations performed - Bulletin 06-08-64-035F" so that might be it.

Oh, I definitely have dash rattles also. They've fixed them twice, but new ones pop up right after I get it back. I love the truck, but little shit like this makes me wonder whether I should just file for lemon law and buy another truck. The bad thing is that I would have a very hard time buying a Ford or Dodge, so in essence, I would be right back where I started from.

Thanks for the info Shasta I'll ask my dealership about the replacement of the new updated weatherstrip.

Is your LMM still silent without any squeaks since you've had the dealership replace them with a new top weatherstrip?

I noticed that even if you clean the heck out of these seals they still make noise.
Looks like the best solution is to just go to the dealership and have mine replaced for the updated one as well like you did. I'll also try sprayin the silicone in the holes like you mentioned and see if it helps any.

I use GM superlube on the door hinges and silicon grease on the weatherstripping, is this OK?

Mine seems to have a bad rattle on the left and right pillar especially in the cold. if i covered the striping with duct tape to check and it seems 99% better .. looks like the widow and door seals are bad too.. theduct tape is on the front window right the most.

I posted some information about the door rattle and the fix I have used in both my 07 and 08 LMM. Look towards the bottom of the page and you will see the pictures I've posted.

Funny you say this, mine doesn't make too much noise but I have noticed it make the noise AFTER the door opens indicating it is more between the seal and the body than the seal and the door.

I don't think mine has the same as everyones noise but might help a few. There is a TSB on this but they said they make noise to with a air deflector on the hood. Mine would really crackle when cold , if you go grab the trim you can see why. But so far the 2 way tape seems like a cheap fix..

Well after about 4 months of driving my had gotten a lot worse. I was taking it to the dealer for a recall on the heated windshield washer and asked them to look it as well. Played dumb and didn't tell them I know of a TSB but here is the interesting thing, they called back and said there was a TSB to replace the strike plates on the doors, is this a new fix? Parts won't be here until tomorrow so I will update after I pick it back up.

Replacing the strikers made no difference. Tell the dealer to cut to the chase and replace the seals like the bulletin I posted above tells them to. That will fix it...

Looks like it for the top of the doors. I have had no itching sound like that on mine ,just the front window rattle probably due to wind deflector..I was told also of replacing the weather striping along roof line most guy said it made no difference Dunno....

Tape install AND replace upper weatherstrip. Can you not open the pdf that I posted? If not download Adobe Reader, install it and open the attachment. The TSB includes drawings and part numbers.

I can open it. I took it to the dealer last time and they said that that was a waste of time. Maybe I'll give it a shot again
