O.K., I have read so many threads on here and other websites and still cannot get those few posts that really make me lean towards one brand or another. I'm just looking for a little bit extra from my LLY when towing, and maybe a little extra around town when I gun it once in a while:D Our last camping trip, my buddy had a little more than me climbing a long grade pulling our 5th wheels. I believe his is about 1000 lbs. heavier too. My trailer is about 6600 loaded. He has a 2004 Ford 6.0. I cannot let this Ford get me so, I have to do something!!;) I also wouldn't mind a little help in the mpg area when I'm not "mashing down" the pedal!

I'm down to either the Predator, Hypertech, or Edge EZ. If I run the Predator at the 40hp tune when towing and the 65hp tune while driving unloaded around town will I really have any issues?? Or, would I still have to get gauges put in, an exhaust system, and aftermarket intake??

The Edge EZ seems like the perfect upgrade, but, I also want the ability to check codes and adjust tire size for my 265's.

Anyone that has tried a few of these products that can give me any help?? Preferably someone who tows a trailer?? Thanks in advance for any help!

Brad

well all i can tell you is that i runn a bully dog power up pup on its lowest setting, because i dont have a monitor or exhaust yet and love it! i pulled my trailer that wieghs about 7k lbs, and it was better then when running empty without the bully dog.

Personally, I would go with Edge because of trans and EGT protection. You didn't mention Banks in you short list but I am very pleased with mine and it works very well, when the PDA is released it will have code reading/clearing abilities and all the gages like the attitude. Edge has a very good following, I just personally didn't like the erratic acceleration on higher settings with light throttle and the long warm-up. Predator is a very well received programmer but since towing is your goal, I would not use it. For me having to re-program every time you go from not towing to towing would be a PITA.

Get the Predator, leave it on the tow setting, and you are good. You will fix your speedo, remove limiter, and be able to read and reset codes.

Personally, my favorite tow tune is the TTS Tow. It is a custom tune though, and while it will correct the speedo and remove the limiter, it won't clear codes.

Wanta get funky? Get the Pred and stick a VA on it. Now you can have your speedo and limiter issues addressed, and code reader, but can ALSO select more power on the fly. Good stack, just don't go nuts.

<---- Nuts.

Quadzilla also has a programmer for the LLY, gives you 5 tunes to choose from, 0, 30, 50, 70, 90, and 110hp. Plus all the usual stuff, tire size, speed limiter removal, rev limiter, also relearn for the trans. Any of the ones you listed are good choices.
I tow a 10K 5th wheel, but never with a big tune. I'll be honest, I still havent put gauges in.. and I run a 215hp tune daily. I've yet to see someone post that around town, they had to stop getting into the pedal due to EGT's. Now for towing, I play it safe and use a mild tune. But I will get gauges soon..
An exhaust will help a little in the EGT's, Intakes aren't as needed on these diesels, more for looks and those wanting every last bit on the dragstrip.
But be warned, once you put a little power in....it can be hard to stop going down that slippery slope):h

Still Confused
The above is about as good as its gonna get.

IMO, You will not need an EGT around town with any hp tune a stock tranny will take. Also I have pulled with Quad 215 and use the extra power to get around cars, oops that would not apply with your stock tranny, but for the record, even short bursts passing cars on the highway, does not give me too high EGTs. I would not try that in the mountains or real steep long hills.
Remember, if your running a high hp tune and towing with no EGT, just be easy up long grades.

It's interesting that "Superchips" never gets mentioned on this forum.......

The reason I mentioned Predator, was that he specifically asked which tuner would suit his list of needs, Edge or Pred.

It would be nice if someone would buy a Superchips and report on it, but it won't be me.

I've got a $500 Superchips in my toolbox for a 2000 Camaro.
Not only doesn't it work correctly, it cannot be resold or used on any other car. And we will not even talk about the quality of the first 3 "proven" tunes I went through.

The Edge EZ has no built in protection! It does have the ability to switch on the fly. I have it and a Predator. I like them both. The Quad was a little to sensitive with the throttle. They are susposed to have that fixed now.

I'm probably going to sell my Predator. It's about two months old, and still has the protective plastic film over the reader display window. Message me if interested.

Thanks for all the replies guys! This is the kind of feedback I wanted. So, I'm only down to the Hypertech, Predator and Quadzilla now. :) Either way, I'm gonna get some more power!:ro)I'll have to PM some guys from one of the other threads that said they got a great deal on the Predator pricing from an Ebay store.

Sledman, I sent you a PM.

Thanks again!
