: Headgaskets?
Ignerence 04-06-2009, 11:12 AM So I have been hearing alot of people with LBZ's saying they have had headgasket problems or a coolant leak fromt the passenger side rear head gasket.
What I want to see is numbers, My 06 lbz is losing maybe .5 qt of coolant for every 10,000 miles, but there are no visable leaks so far...
So if you have had your headgaskets replaced please post up what happaned. your mods, and how many miles you had at the time.
Also is there any known fixes or problems with our headgaskets GM wise?
Thanks :)
dozerboy 04-06-2009, 11:21 AM 60K no problems I haven't seen a lot of member posting about such problems.
DURAtotheMAX 04-06-2009, 11:30 AM no problems here...
06LBZOneStopAuto 04-06-2009, 03:08 PM No problems here at 85k
jettech 04-07-2009, 08:36 AM good poll.
lotsofmiles 04-07-2009, 08:42 AM no problems yet.
woodchuck2 04-07-2009, 08:43 AM One truck "75k miles" has new gaskets and new heads, the other truck "35k miles" is leaking from the right rear head. Both trucks leaked from the right rear head and you can smell the coolant when you walk by the passenger side door/fender.
jpowel29 04-07-2009, 08:45 AM No head gasket problems on my LBZ and they looked fine at teardown

I just saw these and it perked my interest since I am losing coolant...
MONZA452 04-08-2009, 07:30 PM I have coolant leaking out of mine as we speak. Looses about 1 litre a week. Had it to the dealer last monday march 30 and they said "yeah it's leaking" so here's your truck and a gallon of antifreeze to keep topping it off and we will call when gaskets get here because they are on back order!! I said what happens if it blows up they said then a new motor will be covered under the powertrain warranty. I can't beleive it. Oh yeah wife just told me they called today and said bring it in on monday april 5 the parts are in. i'll try and take pic of it leaking on the weekend and post it up. Passenger side, back of the block and at least 1/2 in wide.
rulonjj 04-08-2009, 09:49 PM Not a problem on mine at 180,000. I have been running a chip since day one too.
emiller3 04-08-2009, 10:52 PM Ran high egt's,cracked a piston but did not have any problems with the head gaskets at 77000.
mcnwil 04-11-2009, 06:23 AM I have noticed some loss in my coolant recovery jug, I had to mark it to be sure as it has been very small amounts over 25k. When last at the dealer I mentioned it and they found nothing wrong. I think I will take it back and ensure they did a pressure test, maybe that will show something.

Very small amounts over 25K miles????? I wouldn't go looking for a problem if I were you. Look at the pole, over 85% w/o problems. I bet that climbs to well over 90% if enough people answer.
Woodchuck, you must be 1 in a million. Time to play the lottery!
teabagger2006 04-11-2009, 01:40 PM now that that ya'll mention that i have had coolant loss but that was abot year and half ago..... dont know why? itopped it off and havent noticed any loss of coolant since then
i do notice that at times my resevoir gets low but the next day that i check on it its back to normal
irishtornado 04-18-2009, 10:53 PM Dump the coolant and put something other than Dexcool in it...This coolant is known to eat headgaskets and intake gaskets in GM motors...I dumped mine and went to CAT Extended life coolant in 2 of my vehicles the day I brought them home..
GMC2500HD 04-19-2009, 12:04 PM I never had any issues with my truck. I was pretty hard on it too..
Coolbreeze 04-20-2009, 12:43 PM It is pretty sad that not enough people voted to drive this thing over 90%. So which is it not enough people vote or we actually have a legit problem brewing?
PERM01 04-20-2009, 02:34 PM When I bought my truck a year ago with 63,000 on it the jug was a little low. I filled it up and all was fine till last month ... it was a little low again. I did have the lift pump replaced just before I noticed it low this last time so I'm guessing they lost a little fluid when they did the repair.
rpickett11178 04-28-2009, 10:29 AM mine was leaking at the water pump where the hose connects i tightd the clamp up and she hasnt leaked since
DURAtotheMAX 04-28-2009, 02:58 PM Dump the coolant and put something other than Dexcool in it...This coolant is known to eat headgaskets and intake gaskets in GM motors...I dumped mine and went to CAT Extended life coolant in 2 of my vehicles the day I brought them home..
wrong
crcmu93 04-29-2009, 09:23 PM My 06 headgasket started leaking at 24K and was replaced at 35k. The dealer told me they were seeing some issues on LBZ’s that have been modified or with people that tow large trailers. I now have 49K on the truck and I am starting to leak coolant again. So….
gardnerteam 04-29-2009, 09:59 PM Replaced at 94,000 a couple of weeks ago after a 6,000 mile heavy tow trip in which it used about a gallon of antifreeze. After it was returned to me, low antifreeze light came on 50 miles later, filled it back up, and seems to be OK. Time will tell.
JohnnyJ 05-12-2009, 12:49 PM I have an 06 LBZ that I bought in June 06, I've had to top it off twice after the light chimed. I've got just under 60K on it.
Pretty much bone stock, except I just replaced the tires about 1K miles ago with some 285 BFG ATs.
LBZFAN 05-12-2009, 07:11 PM had to add some coolant about a month ago to the 06 LBZ, thought it was kinda wierd. Level has not seemed to change now. Oh well i guess, seems alright now.
