: Undercarriage Rust - Undercoat or Line-X to fix?

Now that winter is almost over, I want to clean up my undercarriage a bit where the factory undercoat has peeled off, etc.

Should I just use the cheap $2.99-a-can undercoating to do this, or has someone used something better (ie, DIY bedliner material like Line-X or something?) that they'd like to share?

Truck is in immaculate shape, really, just a few areas along the frame rail where the undercoating has peeled off, etc and I just want to keep the body nice for another 100k here in Michigan;)

Thanks! Ben

You should also do a search for frame paint. Comes up with alot of good info.

undercoating is kind of old school now. I was just reading an article about a product that transforms rust into something useful and then you use frame paint after for the top coat. The article was in a diesel magazine. Undercoating just covers up the rust, this product stops rust and then you can paint or put undercoating on top . just a suggestion, charlie

I use the DIY Duplicolor Bedliner spray. It's like $7-8 a can. The stuff is like iron compared to rubberized undercoating. I did my headache rack and rear bumper on my service truck too.

crackle finish rustoleum works good, just plastic off entire truck when you spray or you will have to clay your finish alot.

..........I did all of my lift stuff with it before I installed it too, control arms, everything. I probably went through about 10 cans throughout the whole underside, but it looks awesome and hardned like no ones business.

S&W paint carries a product called "OSPHO" which is phosphoric acid, a rust converter. You brush or spray it on the area and let it turn the rust black, then coat with paint or undercoating.

Saw that. Cured the rust and painted frame/axles with Rust-Mort and Rust Shield from www.semproducts.com Looked nice.

I ordered some Eastwood rust prep (cheaper than POR, sounds like it's the same type of thing) and bedliner spray to put on top of that;) Should be all set!!

Thanks guys!!
