Not trying to start a fight here or anything, just have a question. One of our neigbor's just bought a brand spankin' new ford king ranch with the 6.0 (very nice vechicle inside and out) It wasn't more than 300 miles or so and he needed to have is first fill up, and like most of us do out here, he pulled up to his fuel tank located at his ranch head quaters and put in a full tank of "red" diesel. He started the truck, drove about 100 yards and it died on him. He said the check engine light was flashing amoungst a few others he didn't recognize on the dash. To make a long story short, he had it towed to the dealer and was told the new 6.0's can detect certain charactaristics of fuel and thats what caused the truck to stop running.....?? They also said if he weren't a long time loyal customer they would have dropped all and any warranty on the vehicle. Anyone else heard of this happening? I know some with 04 psd and they run red every day of the week. Thanks for any insight.

Doesn't make any sense to me. Like you said, there are quite a few trcuks running around with red fuel that have no problems. I don't see why Ford would care anyways.

Perhaps he had bad fuel (water etc) but the red fuel itself did not cause the problem.

Yeah, I don't see how a little red dye could effect the way the vehicle ran, but the dealer specificly told him off road fuel was the cause and he is not to run it in the pickup any longer. Maybe the dealer told him that because they didn't know why. I know for a fact though dealers can turn you in for running off-road fuel. Luckily the dealer we go through doesn't ever say anything, but they did inform us that sooner or later the will be "required by law" to report any illegal use of fuel.

Ford is looking for the easy way out. I have ran dyed diesel in my PS many times with no noticable difference in power or performance. This was however in my 97 and not in my 04. The 04 has a hard enough time running with the good stuff.

red diesel is the same as un-colored, off road fuel is dyed red to make the distinction. Off-road fuel is untaxed and cannot be legally run in any of our vehicles on the roadways, it's for farmers and stuff.
