What would be a good replacement for my junk firestone steeltex? I like bfg at's but they don't make a 10 ply. Thanks for any opinions.

If you arte driving 2500HD GM Duramax, TOYO or Michilen E rated are good choices. Several others to. I put TOYQ 265 75R16 load range E because the proce was roght and I've used them before. I like the Michilens to , had about 70K on a set on my last trruck and they still had uable tread left.

What kind of driving do you mostly do? Do you want an all season, traction, highway rib? Highway rib outwears all other hands down, and runs dead quiet.

BFG is soon to release an AT in the E load ratings, if you can wait.

Thanks for the replies! I was looking for a tire that will pull well with my trailer. Most of the summer I pull my tractors that are around 8k, but also
the tires need to work for the winter. Thanks.

Michelin's and Bridgestone are both supposed to be top notch tires in the arena. A tire like the BFG Commercial T/A will give you a long life, but you'd get better traction with a ZO6 Vette in a blizzard than you will with those, but a good summer tire. Me personally I went with Dunlop, but I've got only around 9,000 on them since last Feb when I put them on so I can't say much other than they seem to be a good all around tire for a good price, but longevity will dictate whether the $60 per tire I saved will equal out in tire life or not.

Duramatt, SRW or DRW? If SRW at that tow weight you might consider the Michelin LTX's, they get rave reviews on Tirerack.com's website. If DRW, Michelin XPS traction tires get the nod. They use these on motorhomes as well. ;)

You might try visiting the Tirerack website, good intel there. They have all the specs, revolutions per mile, load rating, etc. Prices aren't bad either. What I usually do is get my pricing off Tirerack, print it out, take it to my local tire shop and see if they'll match it. Worked for me twice, saved $300. The tire guy told me he couldn't get a set that cheap using his employee discount. Later. JJ :)

Dont just look at the number of plies, look at the weight carrying capacity, some 8 plies if they are larger sizes will carry almost as much as our stock 245-75-16.

I had the dealer put on Cooper Discoverer S/T-C 265/75R16, they said the adjusted the computer for the bigger tires - but i am about 3 MPH off looking at the GPS. The are pretty aggressive looking tires. I also plow snow I had no traction issues in the ice or snow. They aren't much louder than the original tires.

Michelins are great tires, but you can't run Michelins if you have a "Boycott France" sticker on your truck. I bought Goodyear Wrangler ATS (265s in an E rating). I ran some on my last truck and got 55K miles out of them.

I went with the XPS-Rib by Michelin ... they also have XPS-Traction if you need snow/mud tires of the same quality. Happy so far.

I've got the same tires as VR but in 255/85 R16. Mine are worn out at 30K miles. Talked to my dealer and they are not going to handle Dunlop any longer. They have had a number of customers that are having problems with the Dunlops. I was going to go to the new RVxt by Dunlop but not after talking to my dealer.

Jake just the rears or all 4?, than again with the power mods available all 4 isn't out of the question either:cool2:

I've only got around 8500 on mine since installed last Feb, so I can't attest to wear, but at the moment I'm liking them. If however I don't get at least 40,000 on them I'll be looking elsewhere. i know Idle Chatter runs the same tire, but for the life of me I can't remember what type of mileage he posted on the, but he's got close to 100 on his truck now so he may be able to chime in with some longevity info.

I got 57,930 miles out of the OEM Firestone Steeltex (although one tire did "sidewall blister" and go down on me unexpectedly and was replaced free of charge under tire warranty at 49,179 - that "new" one went into spare at 57,930). I had four Dunlop Radial rovers installed at 57,930, bought them at Sam's Club, too. Last Fall at 95,120 I put on two new rears purchased from Tirerack. The rear Dunlops still had mileage in them, but were pretty lean in comparison to the fronts with 37,190 miles of wear. I now have 102,000 on the truck, so that puts 44,170 on the fronts and they are still holding up fine. I DID, however, get on to Tirerack and purchase two more of the tires and brought them out here to Idaho with me for front replacements because the Radial Rover AT is out of production and stockpiles are dwindling. The Dunlops haven't worn as well as the Steeltex, but have given me great traction in all weather and I like them. You may have also gotten lower mileage on yours by putting 85s on the OEM rims instead of the 75s. They work for me and I will be running them for at least the next 50,000 miles or more.

I've been thinking of the 255/85/16 in the RVXT . They fit the wheels and seem to fit the truck . The milage variance between 30000 and 50000 has me a little cocerned . There aren't a whole lot of choices out there in that size .Do mostly highway with 6 months of winter

All four have worn equally. I rotate tires every 5K miles. Check air pressure twice a week. My mileage on these is about 70% highway and 30% city.

I was going to go with the RVxt but my dealer had them on his personal truck for a year then pulled them off. He had a two tires go out of round and the wear wasn't going to make 50K miles. So he personally doesn't want to carry them anymore.

I went 40K miles on the original Bridgestone 245's, then installed Nitto Terra Grappler AT 265's last year, have gone only 20K miles, and they're whipped. Never again.

Lock -- How did you hear about BFG's coming out in E rating? Any idea when this might be? I was wondering when/if BFG would get with the program.

I would go for 265E's (LT265/75R16E TA KO's) from BFG if I knew it was sometime in the next couple of months, otherwise it'll be Michelin's since I am tired of fiddling with tires that won't last and I don't want anything to do with any tire that has stone in the name either...
