Now that I have found that my motor needs replaced I have this dilemma: Since the truck didn't hardly run when i bought it I do not know the condition of the turbo,IP,GP,or Injectors. I only have about $800 in the truck right now and I can get a complete drop in for $4500-$6000. Should I get a reman long block and assume my parts are good? I know the outlet fins on the turbo have some wear and it doesn't spill freely,I have one new injector out of the 8, and all the glow plugs appear to be originals maybe.
The truck does need the trans serviced(fluid looks and smells old) and the front to rear brake line replaced. It has an excellent body, interior and decent tires. I don't plan to do any Heavy towing, and I am not a teenie bopper who has to have HP!!

What brand remaned engine? There are many horror stories here on several brands.[jasper,intl. diesel,hi performer] Beware of chineese blocks and heads. Know what your buying before laying down the cash. You can get a NEW GM long block with warrenty from crate engine depot for around $6000 last time I checked. GEP also sells new 6.5s to the public[they sell to gm].
