: MB Wheels from Discount Tires - junk?
jimmytopman 04-04-2009, 07:02 AM I got new wheels and tires there last October, MB Shakers 18x8.5 and Michelin MTX A/T tires. After six months and only 10,000 miles of running them in the winter they are junk. The chrome is pitted and they look like they are ten years old. I am going there this morning to show them and have them order replacements. The reciept states there is a one year warranty for these wheels. I have had tires replaced for free at DT and will buy my next tires there because of they're great service.
Has anyone else had this happen on these wheels and what is the best way to keep them looking new and run them in the winter short of washing it every day?
dur0maxx 04-04-2009, 10:27 AM I have a set of MB wheels on my wifes Tahoe. We've had them on there for a little more than 4 years. No problems whatsoever. But your winters and mine are totally different. The truck spent 2yrs in south texas and now 2yrs in South carolina with these wheels, so no snow for us.
13Fox 04-05-2009, 02:28 AM Not sure there is a good way to run chrome in the midwest winter and keep it looking good. I have a set of Gear alloy's that I've only had on for a couple months of winter and they are pitted and peeling badly. I just run the stock rims in the winter now and keep the chrome for the summer.

The wheels on my 03 (avatar) were American Racing and I ran those for four winters (200,000 miles)and they were still mint except where the lug nuts rubbed the plating off from rotating the tires so often.
BTW I stopped there yesterday and showed them and the kid said ''We'll see what we can do,we will call the distributor.
I said said ''Why don't you just order them, its obvious they are junk. Then I showed him the reciept that said they had a one year warranty on structural and finish. He said ''Yea but you used them in the winter''. I said ''That shouldn't matter''. I told him the salesman said they would be fine , just keep them clean and they will last for years.
So I am waiting for his call on Monday.
irish yankee 04-05-2009, 08:20 AM This reminds me of a scene from tommy boy,I can't find it on youtube..
But it goes something like this; I can stamp warranty on a box of shit all day long, but the warranty is only as good as the man behind it"
ray4224 04-05-2009, 10:48 AM no one is going to cover that.
you used them in salt..they pitted...sounds reasonable.
i would be very impressed if they gave you replacements.
mmangels22 04-05-2009, 10:58 AM it was more along the lines of if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it warranty i will.

They sell you wheels in Minn. and salt is a surprise? Keep us updated before I make a mistake. I was looking at black from them for summer only, but at this principle I will go elsewhere. You have one year and did not abuse or neglect or alter their manufacturing? They could just as well say you used the wrong polish in the summer and ruined them. some wheels have none, some have 5 years and you pay for it. Can you tell if they are rusted/flaking/bubbling from bottom? If they are rusted/flaking from chips, sorry. please post pics and keep us posted

That is exactly the way I see it bigfish. If they sell them here they better warranty them here. If the warranty is void because I used them in the winter they should state that in the warranty, they don't. Plus the salesman said they would be fine. They are pitted mostly on the part that is the hardest to clean, the behind part and the nooks and crannys. No flaking just pits.
I will not get screwed on these , they will be getting me new ones...........I guarantee.
jimmytopman 04-06-2009, 06:23 PM The manager of the Discount Tire called at noon today and said they would replace the wheels at no charge, only problem they could only find three wheels that size in the country. So he said if I wanted I could get a different style of wheel and they would cover the difference. He showed me which ones I could choose frome on his computer screen and they were up to $100.00 more than I paid for mine. I paid 150.00 each for mine and these went up to 250.00 each.
I had him order a set of Liqiud Metal ''Rhino's '' in chrome. They were 219.00 each. He said they would probably be here Friday.
Extreme kudos to Discount Tire for taking care of this. I will post pics when I get them. I am a customer for life.
Anyone ever own a set of Liquid Metal wheels? I thought they looked pretty sweet.
btw ray4224 are you impressed now?
bigfish_Oh 04-07-2009, 12:20 AM I am looking at the black rhino's. I want to know if our center cap will work. If you are paying some difference, remember they are $50. ordered online. I have to call stores to find some to look at. please post detailed pics asap.
thanks,Larry
