: Monster Exhaust?
05'Max 04-20-2005, 11:12 PM Wonder if the Bank's monster exhaust 4 or 5 inch. is worth the money in terms of more power or mileage gains? Who has installed one and are you happy? Are they noisy? Ease of install? Whatever you can fill me in on I would appreicate it before I spend the money..... 04" Max LLY
Glamis44 04-20-2005, 11:26 PM I have the 4" (not aware of a 5") and its awesome. Sounds good, not loud, and very easy to install. Took less then 1 hour. Mileage went up a little bit, not much and it is more responsive, not sluggish when you hit the gas. The best mod was getting the LB7 pipe from banks and getting rid of the Cat. Buy the LB7 kit for your truck. Sounds good, way more peddle and sounds sick. Not loud though which is a good thing. Best part is its a CA truck, and no codes or ses lights. Well worth the money!!!!!!!
Bodysurfer 04-21-2005, 11:20 AM I got BANKS....like it too. Need to the front pipe done to get rid of the cat.
LATER!
a_chevelle 04-21-2005, 12:49 PM I left the cat on. A little more sound and a little lower EGT's. Well worth what I paid for it. Very easy install. The hardest part was getting rid of the old piece of junk.):h
Mark_my_word 04-21-2005, 03:40 PM 04' Max,
Not sure where you are from but in California if you take off the cat and don't add a finger stick you will probably get an ses light and throw codes.
You might want to find someone that has one setup the same way want to do yours to check out the sound. At idle or low throttle its not bad but when you get on it it can get pretty loud. Especially outside on the passenger side.
Definitely quicker spool up on the turbo and defininitely worth the lower EGT's if you tow and have a chip or tuner.
I have the MBRP. The only difference I think you will see from one brand to another is the quality of the fit and finish. Performance wise I doubt there is much difference between any straight pipe.
Regarding power gains, I didn't really notice any.
Glamis 44,
Do you have the muffler on? If you do that may be borderline enough to prevent the code and light. If you are straight pipe from turbo back I'm not sure why you don't get light and codes.
05'Max 04-23-2005, 12:32 PM Thanks to all of you for the replies. So nice to get feedback from those of you that have been there and really know what to expect. Great web site huh.... Oh, by the way, I'm in Oregon.

Glamis44 04-23-2005, 12:50 PM I am running the muffler. I want it quiet but powerful. No codes. I like it better without the cat, sound and power wise. You do not get huge power gains, but I got enough to notice.
max camper 04-23-2005, 03:12 PM I think Banks has the best fit, all but one hanger is welded on (like factory) and lines up perfectly, but beware if you tow and are looking for quiet. I had banks and loved it but the first time I put the camper on and hit the hills, I new it wasn't going to stay on, way too loud for me and a bad drone at 55-60 mph. I now have Hog performance 4" and the fit is not near as good but with their augmentor muffler it is much quieter.
hdmax 04-23-2005, 10:50 PM If you are looking for more power and mileage gain, then it will be a waste of $600. The truck will sound better then stock, and the EGT will be lower. But don't expect any noticible power gain, and absulutly no mileage improvement whatsoever.
And you can expect the entire exhaust to dust pretty quickly if your area uses salt in the winter. After 3 winters, mine is so bad that the rust is flaking off in pieces 3" or bigger.
I am happy with the sound, but that is it! Install took maybe 30 miutes, and I have very little use of my left hand. There are better systems, but they are more work to install from what I understand.
