Hi Guys, Still trying to help a good friend here...he bought this truck (2003) not running so...Here we go, He installed a new injection pump, changed filter, no leaks in fuel lines and he put new batteries in it. Truck has 250K on it, valve covers have definitely been off (injectors??).

The Verdict  Truck starts...will only run if he holds the throttle (won't idle...just dies). At 1500RPM's the engine is NOT noisy...sounds fine. BUT!! It is literally throwing raw diesel out the exhaust pipe ('tis wet!!) Only code is a P0374 which was retrieved from a very good AllData scanner..Could a bad FICM cause all this? (he DID run batteries low I know and I hear this sometimes throws this code). Another point, OIL on dipstick reads normal and has NO smell of diesel at all. I am very suspect of injectors however I have a Cummins myself (looking to get a Dmax shortly...why I am a member) so I am "Dmax Green" :) . Really hope anyone can help with some sugg's, very good friend and needs the truck for work.

imo, it sounds like an injector.

sounds like ball/seat erosion of injector nozzle(s). could try compression check of engine, after pulling all glow plugs crank over and watch glowplug ports for signs of fuel blowing out and that will give idea of which ones to start on.
