: Oil Filter Relocation ???

Hey guys
All this talk lately about oil has brought up another question of mine.

Has anybody done a oil filter relocation on their trucks? And especially the 4x4 models. Mine is a royal pain in the arse to get off. I put it on hand tight, but have to take it off with a filter wrench (the cap style) and a short handle socket wrench that you can not get any leverage on.

I've always done my own oil changes. But as aggrivating as this one is I'm seriously considering letting the Oil Monkey Shop do it unless there's an easier way.

Thanks and Take Care.

p.s. I've been useing AC Delco filters and Rotella (not that is probably matters). LOL

I've been thinking about a relocation kit but haven't found one yet.

I've done it, used a standard PermaCool duel filter one. Mounted it to the frame, was looking for the spot for like 3 months, finally found it, just underneath the driver.
Doubled the filters as well, went with Ford filters, they cost less :)

CR, that's me too, I've not seen one either; but then again I've had a hard time finding aftermarket parts for a 6.5TD.

Thanks 'mobil ! I'll check into the PermaCool. Does Summit Racing sell it? I remember seeing some of their stuff in there in the past. OR does one of the 6.5TD guys like SS Diesel or Kennedy have it?

Yes I use the AMZOIL dual bypass filter kit, got it from Kennedy, with adapters to allow it to use Baldwin elements, he has another option now or soon to be released, he prefers over the Amzoil kit because of larger diameter lines. Mine is mounted under the drivers side floorboard.

I also use the amzoil kit. It is mounted by the drivers fenderwell. I use wix filters because the amsoil filters have become too expensive. I always hear about adaptors to use a standard filter. that is not necessary. one is a ford Fl1a the other is the same one that fits the cummins. (i use the shorter one). I have used Amzoil religiously and have had nothing but good luck. 262,000 and packing for a trip to AZ as we speak

Can someone post more details on the adapters to allow use of other standard type oil filters. It burns me up every time I buy another Amsoil replacement filter with that oversized thread at $ 25 or $ 30 a pop.

Also, I tried to locate the Ford (Motorcraft) F11a filter on the internet using Google, but no joy so far. Is there another longer ford part number, or can you tell me the year, model and engine that it fits ?

Thanks

The FL-1 part number is old Ford/Chrysler filter that fit everything they built in the early days. It was stocked by everybody. Don't know but I think the FL-1A is a short version. (?)

I got mine from the permacool website and then had a machinist buddy make two threaded (inside and out) sleeves so i could use the big mobil 1 m-403 filters. I also put them under the driver's feet. That added almost 2 quarts of capacity. Now I just have to get off my dead ass and put in my oilgaurd bypass filter setup.

I also use the Amsoil dual remote filter system. I have mounts that attach to the frame and the installation and filter change is a breeze.

I will go out and look at the #'s on my filters in the morning and post them.
