I have a 2004.5 EC Short Box Duramax that just had the steering shaft replaced at 6500 miles. There is some play in the u-joint that is just inside the firewall above the brake pedal. Also, if the steering wheel is held at 9:00 and 3:00 and pushed up and down, there is noticeable play. Both of these issues are accentuated when driving on a slightly rough road; the steering feels "rattly", for lack of a better description. In other words, there is more of a feel than there being an audible rattling.

Would this slight looseness be considered within specifications or is it worth having the truck checked again? Any input would be greatly appreciated as it is 45 minutes to the dealer.

Also, I am a builder that spends alot of time on rough roads getting into job sights and the perceived steering rattle gets annoying. On the flip side, the roads I am driving will quickly highlight any issue as said issue will undoubtably get worse.

Thanks ahead for any input/advice.

Regards,

Mark
