i purchased my truck used a couple months ago. it has a 3.5" exhaust sticking out. so i am considering purchasing a used 'cat-back' back system that was on the same year, cc and sb.

i got under my truck, and there is no cat. was this stock, or did previous owner do something? it looks entirely untampered. from the tailpipe, it is 3.5" pipe into big muffler, out with 3.5" pipe, then to a flange type fitting, then up into motor compartment.

did all '02 LB7's come sans cat? if so, then what is a cat-back system for this truck? :confused:

as best I can remember, only cat equipped '02's I know of were California editions and I'm not 100% sure that California required them back then ... I know there has never been one on ours:cool2:

so, would an mbrp cat-back system just bolt into the flange under the cab, or does it sneak up toward the motor?

i guess 'cat-back' for this truck doesn't make much sense.

a cat back would go to the flange, a down pipe goes from the flange to the head pipe off of the turbo.

My 01 doesn't have a cat i don't know when they started maybe 03. dave

certain regions have had cat converters since 01(if memory serves) the rest of the country received cat's in mid 03, my early 03 however did not come with one.

no LB-7 Comes w/cats unless it has cali emissions. We have a 04 lb7 work truck and no kitty. They started put cats on the lly motors

get a vin check on it that will tell you if it came with one// at least my calif truck did have one according to the vin

Mine is an 2004 LB7 and it did not come with a cat.. I think that all the LB7's with the exception of the Cali trucks came without them. Does make it easier to mod...

Do we have to do the test, or just fill out paperwork and get the sticker? THe auto guys onpost weren't to sure, at least the one we were working with.

No Cat came on my 03. They do not test Diesels at all in Illinois. My Big Block gasser has to go in and get the mirror treatment for exhaust leaks and some kind of temperature meter placed on the hood with the engine at idle. Nothing else is tested though, but the Duramax does not even have to make that trip.
