Man, I want one in the worst way, any idea how far out the diesel motorcycle is? Preliminary tests show it getting 180-190 mpg.......

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I had a GL1800 GoldWing last year but had to sell it. Now that the weather is getting warm again, I've caught the fever again. This time I'd like a Yamaha RoadStar Silverado, so both my truck and my motorcycle will be a Silverado.

I believe polaris has had a diesel quad out for a couple of years now. I hadn't crossed over yet so i haven't been following it. Let me check and see if it still exists.

I think the diesel four-wheeler got dropped, but I may be wrong on that one.

While it would be really cool, I'm not sure it would actually be such a great application.

We're after lightweight, quick-revving engines. Size is a real factor here as well.

I always thought the same thing would be true in prop-driven airplanes, but diesels are definitely gaining ground in this segment, so I guess we'll just have to see!

The US Military has been running diesel fueled motorcycles for a number of years.
(dirt bikes) They want everything to use the same type of fuel for supply ease.

I would like to experiment with a Hatz diesel (German made, Northern Tool sells them) on a small street bike. Probably would try to drive it with a variable pitch pulley torque converter. They have one that is 10 HP, I would think that would be able to achieve the speed limit on a light bike, plus achieve over 100 mpg.

Those little Haatz diesels are pretty damn tough in my experience. I ran one used in a walk-behind trench compactor that absolutely got abused to no other. It became a little hard to start, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

I was impressed it handled the abuse as well as it did--motor got a steady diet of dirt along with the fuel and air.

We have a 5hp Hatz engine on a walk behind Bomag roller for 24 in wide compacting jobs, the total weight is 1250 lbs and this runs 12 hours on around 1.5 gallon of fuel.
