well i'm certain that i'll be asking many of the same questions that most likely have been answered countless times.. but please be patient for a few reasons
1 - new to diesels
2 i have a bastard van that was hodge podged together by chevrolet. ( meaning the truck was manufactured during then end of the 1998 year) seems like a small issue right ? .... well lets see according to GM, napa, chilton, mitchel , haynes and a few other sources my van has parts that are not actually on my truck! makes for a rather difficult time fixing and trouble shooting my issues. to date my van will not give me even one error code but yet i have a plethora of problems. One of them being lurching in reverse. another being the horrible mileage i get with it (500 km to a tank highway). from what i've read on here i believe i may have a few issues PMD/OPS and lift pump.

the lift pump i can find. the other two .... cant be seen
as far as locating the 2nd fuel filter to purge the air from the line ... its non existant as well. the van has a water separator infront of the tank and before the lift pump.

another amazing issue was the speedo showing i was driving 100k/h while i was clearly driving under 40k/h took somewhere around 20 cycles off and on to correct... and still no codes.

the truck sometimes has issues starting... sometimes stalls under load and yet other times it will stall coasting for no good reason at all.

when i changed the fuel filter a month ago it cleared up some issues for a bit.

i severely doubt its a bad tank of fuel considering it ran " normally" for 3/4 of the tank

0. Describe in detail the problem you are having. Please be as descriptive as possible.
1. Does the engine crank, or 'turn over'? yes
1a. Does the engine start and run? not today
1a1. If the engine does not start - Crack injector line: do you have fuel? Yes
1b. Do you have a Wait To Start Light & the amount of time (seconds) lit.6 - 10 secs
1c. Ambient Condition (temperature outside indicate F or C) _____ °6 celcius
1d. Engine Cranking speed (if you have an accurate tachometer). NA / fast- normal
1e. Are you experiencing stalling? yeah in the past under a variety of conditions
1f. If Stalling, describe (upon startup only, down the road, hit a bump etc) whenever it decides its time to be a pain
1g. If Stalling, do you notice loss of dash or instruments? nah electrical is fine
-note if experiencing stalling, you must indicate PMD location in #24.

1h. Check turbo inlet and air filter for obstructions. Cone filters have lost disk and stopped air to turbo. clean and clear new filter too.
1i. In a no-hot start, pour a bottle of room-temp water on the injection pump. Does it start now? never tried
1.1 Lift pump test - describe results dead off to napa today for a new one
2. Service Engine Light while running?- off
2a. Service Engine light does glow during start/cranking/bulb check: only on initial gauge illumination
3. Model year 1999 ( actual manufacture was late 4th quarter 98)
3a. Odometer reading (indicate if in miles or km) 236,000 KM
3b. Miles on major engine components if been replaced (example Injection pump) a whole shit list done by GM service as it was a former fleet vehicle... i'll get the print outs and update
3c. Indicate the model number on the Injection pump (starts DS4 or DB2......)unknown
4. Have you scanned for engine codes? (varies by pre/post 96) 2 different obdII scans and no codes
5. List exact results on engine codes:
6. Air Filter condition (visual check) new
7. Fuel filter condition - freshly changed
8. Condition of Battery terminal connections - cleaned and tightened
8a. Known condition and age of the batteries. less thyen a year
8b. Are batteries of differing age or are they a matched set? matched 1000 cold amp
8c. Condition of Major Grounds. good condition clean and snug
9. Upon cold start, does the radiator hose get hard quickly? no, not excessively
10. Upon cold start, do you have excessive white smoke? Yeeh and annying cloud
11. Do you have excessive cranking time before the engine starts? as of the last few days yes
12. Have you used the block heater, and does this effect engine starting? yeah under cold canuck winters
13. During hard acceleration, do you have excessive black smoke? no, barely any... bit of a let down really

just to update the lift pump was shot.. replaced and starts easily now... fuel economy is still garbage

on a side note i had to bypass a severely leaking power steering fluid cooler

and yet another update... thought the problem was resolved changing the lift pump.

now the idiot light is on telling me to check engine... starts easily but goes from the brink of stalling to near redline and back in a whacky cycle that the gas pedal does not alter.

puffs of black and white smoke billow out of the exhaust ..

shut it down and called it everything but a ford and now the service engine light is off

Did you bleed from fuel filter after changing the LP? There may be some air in the fuel.

truck ran 200km without a hiccup.... my main issue is trying to find diagrams and repair information on my vehicle. there is litte to no space in my van to even spot most things let along try and track them down while running

the revving sounds like a broken IP armature to me...

Try the cheaper route first tho, my truck was revving to redline b4 without touching the fuel pedal, replaced the pmd with a DTECH unit on a heat sink and mounted it in the bumper with an extension harness. Not a problem since
