Here's a couple pics of a charger that a buddy of mine gave me. I'm thinking of using this charger in conjuction with my VGT on my LLY in a compounded twins setup.
Think I can light it off? The shiny object is a quarter. And some may recognize the yellow book below the charger. It's approximately 6x9".
It is a ball bearing cartridge, Garrett I'm assuming, the compressor side is a modified holset, looks like HX50 or bigger. The turbine housing is handmade, seems to be stainless or inconel. It's a true work of art. I'll post some pics later when I get back out to the shop. It is an undivided runner approximately 3" inlet or so.
I think I can spin it on my LLY. Especially how the VGT seems to dump the backpressure so quickly which would be exactly what you'd need to light the large charger.
:ro)

Holset turbo
you need the control box for it... there is one on ebay right now for cheap.
you need a reg air supply IIRC and power to the box

Seems to me you'd be better off getting a non variable turbo?

This thing isn't factory.. It was designed for a formula one car. 3.0L engine or so, high RPM, Low boost, HIGH flow.
The wire you see is a tachometer for the compressor wheel for testing purposes. The other hose is the pressure feed line.
Link to that other ebay turbo though, would ya :)

It's not variable. It's just a hybrid.. Machined housing to accept non-stock components.

My mistake.
I did not look all that close at it.
Holset does make a similar arr

So, is this turbo similar in size as far as compressor diamter to the twin setups you guys are building?
You don't have to divulge anything, just looking for honest input from the guys running twins. Especially on an LLY.

I would PM IdahoCTD for that information.
I cannot say either way. Nathan could tell you based on the A/R Ratio of this charger etc.

Definitely let us know how it turns out...or what you found out!

Ok.. Here's some dimensions for the charger pictured above.
Turbine Wheel OD ~ 3.625"
Compressor Wheel OD ~ 2.935"
Compressor Wheel Minor Diameter ~ 2.900"
Compressor Wheel Major Diameter ~ 3.700"
Maybe these numbers will help a bit Nathan.
Thanks,
