: Limp Mode
bow-tielover 03-30-2009, 01:49 PM Ok so months ago I had issues with my MAF. I took it to the dealer and they said they replaced the sensor. Now fast forward to last Friday....
I installed my Qaudzilla with DPF delete and new exhaust at the 70hp setting. Truck ran bitchen all day. Later that evening I pull up to a traffic light and it goes into limp mode. This is usually when it would always happen. So I drive a few miles and it does it again. The next morning I take the MAF sensor out and clean it. I took the filter out and shook some dirt out of it.
Still it goes into limp mode, but only when I come to a complete stop. I really dont want to put the stock exhaust back on and take it to the dealer and we are going out of town Friday.
Does anyone have a clue to whats happening? The code I get is still 0101.

Do you still have your stock intake on?
Diesel Dragon 03-30-2009, 06:51 PM I had a problem with the MAF and was getting limp and MAF codes and it turns out it was wiring pinched and shorting out. The delaer fixed it so I didn't get to see where it was actually pinched, he said it was in the engine compartment, I would suggest to atleast follow the wiring as much as you can from the MAF sensor back and see what you can see.

LmmDMax631 03-30-2009, 09:27 PM check all the connections on the air intake. if its not that, i Know there was a recall on that sensor. if it is an 07.5. buy the sensor and save the time to change the exhaust and taking the programmer out.

I had them change it a a few months ago, Do you think I got another bad sensor or the chevy dealer was full of shiiit? How much are the sensors?
How much are the sensors?
It's showing $192 from GM parts direct.

Jesus Christ!
Is it possible that my filter is very dirty and its throwing the sensor? There was a lot of sand in it.

yes
mmangels22 03-31-2009, 03:21 PM could be a dirty filter that could be corrupting your MAF.

Only has 30k on it, but I do drive in the sand sometimes, not often like every other month.
mmangels22 03-31-2009, 04:10 PM Check the wiring in that region. If not that bring it to the dealer.
bow-tielover 04-02-2009, 03:07 PM Update:
Monday night I pulled the MAF off again. Cleaned it again, but this time cleaned the connections and re-ran the wire. No problems now!:)
mmangels22 04-02-2009, 03:25 PM cool so it was an electrical connection short huh? good it all worked out.

30 k  of course I`m old and still attending old school. That is why I like using the aFe Pro7 OEM(still using the stock air box)oil type filter.
I have used oil type airfilters for over 14 years now on 12 vehicles and I have never had a problem, the intake after the filter has always been clean from dirt.
I worked(now retired)in a dirty enviroment (for 35 yrs) and the filter needed cleaning about every 4 k.
Even before I made the change using a stock airfilter it was dirty at 4k.
And the cost for the stock airfilter out weighs these aftermarket oil type airfilters.
One suggestion is to stay away from K&N they only have 4 layers v.s. the pro 7 having 5 and they are thicker and different material.
That is why I`ll never believe that a stock air filter could ever hold up to this 30-50K claim, there is NO way in heck.
Unless of course you drive only in a completly dirt-sand free enviroment.
I mean if my aFe was dirty at 4k and they claim a stock filter would still be good for another 26-46K. "BULL PUCKY"
Think about it they both took in pretty much the same amount of air flow and dirt, where would all the dirt go in a stock filter.
There is not a dirt seperator that automatically removes the dirt out a exhaust port.
I think thats what most believe.
Sorry for getting on this rant but I know all the intelligent stock airfilter people will remark on this.

Thats my guess. Funny when I think about it, the problem occurred right after I took it in to have my coolant sensor replaced because it would pop up as low on my dash everytime I hit a driveway or speed bump. So they must have f-d up the maf wires when replacing the sensor. Who knows.

Suggestion try a aFe proguard 7 OEM(part # in my sig) a drop in the stock intake, for about $70 I think you would be happy enough.
Besides several has had trouble code issues including limp mode with the relocation of the sensor on a complete intake system and the higher increase in air flow.
The increased air flow on a complete intake system is a waist of $$$ if you are NOT planning to push a very large increase in H.P. with the Quadzilla.
You would also have to re-programming everything to accept the larger airflow as well.
Now ! If you plan on making this a race truck then save your $$$ and spend, spend, spend.

Hmm I could afford that!
So its just a replacement filter? The pictures shown on the website look like I would have to remove the stock air box? Or is the real picture not shown.
mmangels22 04-03-2009, 01:44 PM You can get the replacement filter, and there is also some options for an intake system replacement which would obviously replace you OEM intake.

Call aFe, I have not looked at there website for sometime but when I bought mine in Aug 07 it did not show a drop in for the LMM.
I found out then the 06-early 07 was the same as 07.5 +.
I just checked out aFe`s website they still have not corrected anything.
The 71-10101 is the drop in for the newer 07.5 + LMM`s as well as 06-early 07`s.
They looks simular to the 10-10101 but black in color instead of red and they are the proguard 7.
You would think after 1 1/2yrs the person incharge of the web site would have woke up.
I have 2 filters #71-10101 ,then I can clean at my leasure, also don`t buy from aFe, buy from a dealer you will save a few $$.
bow-tielover 04-06-2009, 04:14 PM Dammit!
Truck drove perfect all week. Im driving home in the 60mph+ winds from Primm NV this weekend and it does it again at a rest stop! I dont know what the issue is. Its had two sensors and i re-ran the wire. Could it be the filter is dirty?
mmangels22 04-06-2009, 04:19 PM yeah it might.
bow-tielover 04-06-2009, 04:58 PM yeah it might.
I guess Ill change it out then to the AFE.
