i'm going on my 4th oil change on my '03 6.6 . at the auto store is 2 different shell oils . rimula and rotella t . can someone please tell me what the difference is? it's 15w40 the first oil change i did , i used the rimula and it's seemed ok. i did the first oil change at 5,550 miles and i'd like to do it that way all the time. the second oil change i did , i used rotella . i got this really nasty smell ! dam it stinks and i noticed the engine had used some oil while using the rotella and not with the rimula. i'm new to the diesel world so any help would be great , thanks ,ron :ro)

Well here's what I found on the shell web site.

http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId=lubricants&FC2=/lubricants/html/iwgen/shell_for_businesses/transport/products_services/zzz_lhn.html&FC3=/global/shell_for_businesses/oils_lubricants/rimula/rimula_productrange/rimula_super_ga_0105.html

Sorry the link is so long, I don't have that tiny url thing down yet.

If you snoop around the shell lubricant page, I think you might find a difference but I didn't.

On Shell's website Rotella T and Rotella T Synthetic Blend are the only ones claiming to meet service and warranty requirements. Rimula appears to be for heavier duty (and slower turning) engines.
