Just a quick question regarding the predator tuner. I am looking at getting one of these for my 05 but am wondering if I am going to have to get a new exhaust so that it won't throw codes. Also is it pretty much mandatory to get gauges to monitor your EGT's and what can I expect to pay for one. Thanks for any info you can give me..........
wiscdmax - you don't need an exhaust with the predator as it won't cause codes to be thrown. On the contrary, you will be able to read and clear codes with it as well as monitor real time engine data. Oh yea and "tune" your truck.
IMO, gauges aren't manditory, but probably a good idea. I was suprised at how quickly the EGTs can climb. If you plan on towing with your truck, especially tuned, I strongly encourage them.
As far as prices, check with some of the supporting vendors. I think kennedy diesel (www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/)) carries them.

Gauges are a good idea, but not absolutely necessary. These trucks run hot from the factory so an aftermarket exhaust is a good idea either way to help the evacuation of heat. If you are not going to run gauges, I would not go over the 65 tune as it will get HOT in a hurry.

Exactly DSTRBD. I run on the 85 and 100 hp tunes SOME before I had gauges and exhaust. After I installed my gauges I realized how fast you can peg a 1600° pyro! About 8 seconds!!! That kind of temp can and will cause damage if it's prolonged more than ???? amount of time. It wasn't long after I had gauges that I upgraded to catless 5" exhaust. I can still hit 1400° but it takes quite a bit longer/more load to do it. Like said before, the Predator will not set codes on it's own. The exhaust is a different story but there are ways around that too. Look at the Fingers Stick thread and search for Kroutman's egr block-off plate. Hope that helps.
