i own a 04 dmax that developed what sounded like a fuel knock. it is now being tore apart at the dealer as he said cylinder 8 is causing knock.it may be the fault of a faulty injector washing down cylinder and causing that cylinder to wear outearly. the only symptom i had was a fuel knock under acceleration.if i owned a dmax that had bad injectors, id be concerned about excessive and premature wear.....-:t

I think he means that if someone has had injector issues w/their truck, that they might want to be aware of it...just a guess.

That's what I figured too, but I wanted phazar to clarify what he meant.

what i mean is when an injector fails, it floods or washes the engine oil out of the cylinder and therefore there is metal n metal causing cylinder wear. does anyone know if the dmax has cylinder sleves that can be replaced?

It does not. The cylinders are induction hardened, not sleeved.

mine has a loud fuel knock under load also

04 have not seen injectors wash out cylinders. knock under load I would stat with balance rates and compression test.

compression test fine, you may be confusing fuel knock with piston slap as i did,the noise is only there under load or acceleration. the dealer did a test whre they drive and shut down each cyl at a time and when #8 is off, noise goes away.any truck no matter what year can have cyl wash down if injector is suck open.

Was it smoking like a son-of-a-gun?
