I read about a guy that did it to a na 6.9 navistar on one of the ford sites a while back. He thought it helped his power, but no dyno runs to prove it just seat of pants and how fast he could pull hills. A simple system would probably just need a regulator, an electric solenoid valve and a switch and some hoses. Need to be very careful that system is shut off when engine is not running.

Do a search on e-bay and you will find a how to book with all of the safety concerns and do and don't. It might be the best 20 bucks spent?

Search for: propane injection

Propane injection will have no effect on a NA engine. It's for turbo applications only. I found this out because I wanted to do the same thing. Searched Google under "diesel propane injection", and discovered the flaw. But that's alright...I just bought a complete turbo setup on Ebay for less than $500! Woohoo!

I just read another article on propane injection for NA diesels, I believe it was on THEDIESELSTOP.com, http://www.thedieselstop.com/contents/getitems.php3?IDI%20propane%20SetupThe results are encouraging. On the test, an acetelene regulator was used and set to 5 psi, a micro switch was fastened off of the injection pump advance cam and set to open at about 1/2 throttle, the switch was wired to an electric valve and the propane line was routed into the intake. The person doing the test reported a drop of 5 seconds in the 0 to 60 and was able to pull a hill at 65 mph compared to 55 without the propane. I am thinking that a fuel solenoid like that used for nitrous might be a good start. Let's get some 6.2 numbers!:cool2:

are there any adverse effects to running propane injection? Seems it would be a pretty simple setup to instal... maybe even pretty cheap.

I don't think there are any negatives. Runs cooler, burns cleaner, and more power.

ummm, how can it lube the IP better? propane doesnt go through the pump does it? I thought the propane got injected into the air intake?

Propane injection into the air intake has nothing to do with lubricating the injection pump. The thing that I would worry about is that the propane would ignite before the injector releases the diesel fuel. It would also use up the oxygen and the diesel fuel would not burn completely. To compensate for that you would need a turbo to pack more air into the combustion chamber,

So...sounds like nobody is actually sure if it is good and makes a difference, or if its bad and not worth the time and money. I read this post and I await more info on it since im new to the idea. no conclusion though. then i find info online about it, like this article. http://www.bankspower.com/tech_propane.cfm still no conclusion.

anyone have hard, solid facts about it on a N/A engine??
