: My PMD remote install

I made my own PMD remote with an old car amp heat sink and 3 12v cooling fans. I mounted on top of the driver side fender with a temp sensor on it. So far it's working good.. I made my own extension cable from an old PMD that I took apart for the female end (male end I had). What I was wondering is if I can install the resistor in the extension cable and not the PMD. The reasoning behind this is if I ever fry my PMD I can just unplug the old PMD and plug in the new one without trying to get the resistor out.

Iam going to Remote install mine tomorrow and noticed my new PMD did not come with a resistor.

Does Stanadyne carry the #9 resistor or is that a custom thing?

It's a stanadyne part. I got mine from the local stanadyne dealer.. Only cost me $19 can.

A #9 is $19?

I believe all the resistors are the same prices.. The #9 is suppose to supply for fuel. I didn't notice any differences when I put my #9 on. You can get from any of the good venders as well. SSdiesel, JK, Heath. etc.

You can just soder a resistor inline for the same effect. If you look at the OEM resistors they're between two pins.

I ll second the "#9 didnt do anything different " with mine either. Best to just use what you have , unless its bad. Save yourself $20.

Well i remote mounted my new PMD with a #6 Resistor. I Cleaned more connections and still the same code. I checked the wiring behind the coolant tank, no bad wires and still the same code. I changed the fuel filter thinking the gasket was bad and sucking air, still the same code.
I am going to ( FORGOT) check the stepper motor tomorrow.

Is there anything i am missing for The P0251 Code or am i beating a dead dog?

Thanks again Guys

I have a pmd/fsd cooler kit enroute as I type. From the website it said that it was bad to mount on the firewall cause it has bad circulation back there. Look for yourself

I agree that the firewall isn't the best place, but on top of the intake is just as bad if not worst. A lot of guys here say to keep it out of the engine compartment. I was going to put my one inside the cab but the fan and water system I made, made too much noise and drove me crazy. I used an old car amp heat sink (amp was 500 watts) with 3 fans and a peltier (not sure about the spelling but the same thing that those 12v ice coolers use to cool your drinks). I also installed a temp sensor of my old computer. My PMD never gets about 30c. I'm towing this weekend and will see if it really works. If not I have an extra PMD and where I installed it I change it before you can check your oil.

Even worse spot is on top of intake manifold. Get a longer wiring exptension and mount it outside the engine bay. You can make it yourself for about $5-10. Mine is 60" long and mounts in front of the radiator behind the grille and doesn't ever get very hot at all.

I hate to sound like a broken record on this but until the SOL-D gets some reliability behind it and a warranty beyond 5 years, the kit Bill Heath sells is the way to go; a solution with a 7 year warranty I'm going into year 2 on mine, & am very satisfied with it.

I just did it for the fourth time today. I cut off the connector, sodered in enough length to get me to the oil cooler bracket in front of the radiator and put a wireloom around it.

The only aluminum I had on hand was a flat plate as big as the driver and I screwed the plate to the oilcooler bracket with the driver on it. I'm going back sunday to help him make a boost controller and wire in resistors and advance his timing, and perhaps bump his optical.

I ran my FSD on a Peltier thermoelectric device for a couple of days and it kept my FSD "ice" cold while it was turned on, but I removed it and just ran the heatsink when I discover that when I turned the truck off the heat in heatsink went back into the FSD. I didn't like the heat cycles. It stays plenty cool in front of my truck with just the heatsink.
