I thought I remember reading about a factory installed aux underbody tank a while back. Maybe someone has more info on it.

Whats up with the poll?

Too much fuel will be heavier, hence less fuel mileage. It is heavy already with 42 gal when full.

Do you notice a difference in fuel economy when you have a big passenger with you? Unless you're getting up into the 50+ gallon aux tank range, I don't think theres too much to worry about regarding fuel economy. Then again I don't know what size tank the OP is thinking about. :D

Diesel fuel is heavy that's for sure. A 5 gallon can of diesel is about all the weight I want to to pick up and carry around by hand. Its nothing for the truck but still heavy. Full tank of fuel is 300#. (7.1#/gal x 42 = 298.2#) Still tho why would you want or need more than 42 gallons? Assuming 20mpg, thats 840 miles per tank if you run it dry.

Matt,

My stock tank gets me over 700 miles between fillups. That's almost 14 hours of driving. How far do you intend on driving?

I have not seen an auxiliary tank for the Burb, but wonder if some of the pickup tanks that mount on the frame rail might be adapted for this use? Something to think about. Or you could always go the custom route and have someone make you a tank. Mucho dinero...

Personally, I like the way my truck performs on half a tank or less. It gets downright zippy feeling without all that fuel back there. On the other side of the coin, when the roads get snowy I like all that fuel on board. Finally, maintaining the tank full keeps condensation down and water out of my tank. Always a good thing...

here's a company that builds custom tanks, sure to get one that will fill the need: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1073858073.html

IIRC some 92 & later Suburbs have an inside LH fuel tank in the area where the spare resides normally. Of course if you have dual tanks the spare tire is a problem unless you are pulling a trailer. 42 gallons is enough but if your dual fuel (wvo)then the second tank matters.

well It's just one of those thing s that you set back and say i wounder if. So that is why i asked and the poll is to get a better point of this truck in a one day response. Beside that it would be nice to have a second tank for bad weather or any Emergency were your not just running mileage but using your truck as a power supply for the house. Or for me planing my trip to Alaska. Thank's for all the response's.

I hear what Matt is saying. I went 820 miles once on a tank:eek: but have always wanted to go 1000 miles.
