i love my chevy trucks but it sounds like they have some costly problems like bad injectors and heads. right now i am leaning towards a ford 7.3 powerstroke diesel. i know that the 2005 dont have as may problems but i cant afford to pay that much right now. i am not much of a mechanic but i can chage out parts. what do you guys think? what are some problems with the 7.3 powerstroke and the cummins

The chevys did have injector problems with them in the first gen motors. The second gen had some overheating issues. Most of them are fine. third gen is the best by far, most power and torque. People do knock the IFS on them. But the truck overall is amazing. Granted this is a chevy site with chevy die hards.

The 7.3 was stopped in 2003. They went to the 6.0 in 2004 full time. The first gen 6.0 had some problems like bad turbos, injectors, and there head gaskets. But not all were bad. Again hit and miss with those motors.

The cummins is a pretty good motor all the way around. But the rest of the truck sucks.

:agreed: If you want a reliable ass truck that will work until YOU get tired go with a superduty with a 7.3. I wouldn't get a 6.0 powerstroke or early duramax, the cummins is ok but as stated already the rest of the truck sucks. Been there done that.

does the 7.3 have any major problems?

All I can think of is the oil pans rusting out the the cps going bad. There is a recall on the cps though through ford.

x2 on the 7.3 fords. 99% of the farmers around here use 7.3 fords. They arn't fast, they don't make the power of a dmax or cummins, but they arn't going to quit working on you.

Get what makes you happy, then mod it to take care of problems/weakness' . Then you''ll have the truck you want and it will perform the way you want.

think if you find good 7.3, might cost you some $. lot of them that want good reliable diesels are going after them. problem is you go around looking for engine that has no problems and the one you get sometimes has problems. customer has 02 powerstroke with 7.3 and farmers keep offering cash to buy it, instead of him trading it in on new truck.
