im a die hard duramax fan but i rode in a 2005 dodge 3/4 ton with 24v cummins in it and it was stacked and had a new turbo on it. It makes 500 hp and 50psi of boost with capabilities of up to 70psi. doe 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and a 12 secong quarter mile. man my truck feels so slow after riding in it. i wish there was a way to put a cummins in front of an alison cause i would be doing that right now

500 RWHP out of a DMax is relatively easy, just for comparison info. A new turbo shouldn't be required, nor should any drugs--just straight #2 and some aggressive programming!

And a LB7, for now......

Dodge transmission will die unless performance built.

Over 380 kills them quickly.

Your friend either has a built trans... or will need one soon

he blew the tranny second day and got a performance one

You can build a Dmax to 500rwhp for less than a Dodge, and you can do it with either an LLY or LB7.

You need a trans ($3500). Big tune (~$1000). Exhaust($400). Nitrous($400).

PS - Have you SEEN it run 12's? Everyone has a 12 second Camaro, an 11 second Z06, and a 10 second Supra until they show up at the track. Yes they exist, but most of them won't run the number.

Not knocking you here, I re-read my reply before posting and it could be taken in the wrong spirit so I am posting this disclaimer

For what reason would you want to do this? If it's only to have some big power, than that is one EXPENSIVE way to get it. Even if you do take the time/money to do the conversion, you will still have to address the transmission.

I don't have any personal experience of owning a diesel powered Dodge or GM (waiting until 06 for my new Max/Ali GMC), but I have driven plenty from bone stock to moderately modified and have even helped work on them (I'm the "friend" with tools). Buck for Buck and Pound for Pound the GM seems to be the cheapest for upgrading to big numbers. The GM's can produce some big numbers with programming and N2O. The Dodges generally run into the turbo as a limiter and need to upgrade ($$$$$). With either you are going to have to address the tranny ($$$$) at some point. It seems the GM is the cheaper way to go if that is your motivation (within reason).

I will admit that once you compare studding/o-ringing the head, the MAX jumps up in price considerably for parts/labor, and the Cummins can be much easier to work on (depending on what you are doing).

*sidenote* I remember performance parts coming out years ago for the Dodge and they were pretty $$$$, and even though they aren't "cheap", the cost seems to be coming down a little. I'm hoping as more products/vendors start coming out for the LB7/LLY/ALI that prices will drop a little as well.'

Time will tell though.

Either way, I like all make of trucks, and respect anyone who produces big power (and proves it). My favorite hobby (check sig) is truck pulling. I have only owned GM trucks (but several cars from other manufacturers) and I like to get into a friendly Ford vs. GM vs. Dodge debate at times (Chevy all the way :joke:  )

I have been given the opportunity to drive, pull, and plain old screw around with built trucks from other manufacturers and have been very impressed (honestly put my trucks to shame....also the reason for wanting the new Max), but I enjoy the power regardless of who or how it was made. I gave the big 3 an honest evaluation and the GM came out on top (overall......and that was an A-Z comparison as well as future alterations). As much as I have only owned Chevy's (mostly through "deals too good to pass up", I decided this time to go with the GMC based on looks as the drivetrains are the same.

Wow that post went way :offtopic: . Sorry!:Nothing_f

So your comparing your bone stock dmax to the feel of a cummins with a built tranny, stacked boxes and a turbo and now you want a cummins:rolleyes:. I think you need to compare apples to apples. Matt

actually ive always liked the cummins for reasons and duramax for reasons and i have seen it run in the 12 second range because he has a display thing i dont know what it is that displays 0-60 and 1/4 mile. and im not saying that i would want thaT much hp because i would have my license suspended very quikly but it would be nice to have a truck to go have some fun in once in a while im not saying the duramax is not fun and that i wouldnt do it with the duramax it is just my opinion that i was very impressed in what the dodge could do

Dodge tranny built $3800....big turbo upgrade $1600...injectors $1000 dollars....electronics $1,000...lift pump $400...total...$7800...$8000 might get ya there. If he is running 12's on an attitude monitor.....thats a lot different than lining up at the track. But....if that gets ya goin....buy all means trade the max and get yourself a cummins. I will tell you this... can be done a lot cheaper in a max. Also...being a 3rd. gen cummins I would highly suggest upgrading the valve train at that amount of power if he hasn't all ready done so. Been there done that with a 3rd. gen cummins already.
