I got a flat in my sidewall, so its time to upgrade. I found the wheels I want (XD Hoss) in 17x9 with 4.5" backspacing at performance plus tire, they offer free mounting and balancing and free shipping on wheel and tire packages. I now have to decide between the bfg's and the nitto's. I ran bfg's on my old cherokee and loved them, and I ran the nitto's on my Touareg and loved them... looking for opinions... Thanks also if there is another tire in this category that I should be looking at please feel free to let me know.. .thanks..

My Nittos seem very quiet, I was extremely impressed with how quiet they were. I just got them so I cant really comment on how they work in different terrain but in what I've been in they worked fantastic. And like said above, BFG's are way over priced!

I just got a flat in my sidewall too in my BF G's. I had to replace one that had less than 5k miles on it. It was almost 250 to replace it. I can tell you this.......next set of tires I will be shopping around. I love the tires but I don't know if I will buy another set.

Well I had BFG's on my jeep and they worked great. I currently have 265's terra grapplers on for winter on stock rims, they are quiet and seem to wear nice and stay balanced well. I just have a problem with the rear ones wearing...hmm, anyway i would say its a toss up I like the BFG's tread pattern better it seems to work better in the mud or in wet conditions

I've had a few sets on BFGs on various vehicles and I haven't had any complaints about any of them. One issue I had was that they grab EVERYTHING!! Gravel roads and gravel topped roads are hell on these tires. My first set only lasted about 20K miles because of gravel topped roads. My current set on my DMAX have 20K on them and have 50% left but I don't drive on as many gravel topped roads with the DMAX. My nephew has Nittos on his 1500 and they ride real well and he got a heck of a deal on them (305/70/16s for $580). However they don't hooked up as well in light mud and in wet fields like BFGs do.

I'm impartial to either..........if I had to choose between the 2 I'd go with BFG. I'm more towards cheaper MTs (Mastercraft, Dunlop, Mud Kings) that get the job done on my work truck and medium priced ATs for the DMAX.

How much are you guys paying for BFG AT's?

I just bought a set and had them installed for around $850.00

I price checked MT Atz's, way over a $1,000.00

Checked Nitto, Yokahama and goodyear and they were all within $60.00 of each other.

Just curious how much are you guys paying for tires?

When I bought this set back in 07 before I deployed, I paid around 740 mounted for mine. That was a one-time deal from a guy who owned a tire store that my brother knows. If I could get them for that price all the time I would stick with them. I have never found a tire I like better, but I can get used to another tire if I am looking at 1000 dollars for BF Gs when I wear these out.

I payed about 1600 bucks for 4 toyos. I feel the more spent, the better when it comes to tires.

40K plus on my Nitto t/gs and they are about 1/4 tread. These are 10 ply 285/16s. They are the flattest wearing 285 on a PYO ive seen. Ive had BFGs and they did'nt make it to 25k and they cost a bunch more than the Nittos. The Nittos will tear a BFG up in the snow and they don't do bad in the mud either. I will buy another set guaranteed.

General makes a tire that looks identical to the BFG and they wear a lot better too, cost me about $700 for 285's. I put 40k on a set of these and they still had about 1/2 tread left when I sold the truck. Next set of tires I get will either be the Gereral Grabber AT or the Nitto AT's.

I can't speak for running either, but I have been pricing them for the last month or so. I can say that the Terra grapplers and the BFG's in a 285/70/17 are within $6 of each other right now ($200) and BFG has a $70 rebate going on till the end of the month. I'm not sure if that is nationwide or just here in the NW though.

From the comments I've read here and elsewhere, I was leaning towards BFG's. A fair amount of complaints about soft tires and not getting alot of wear out of them ~20k. I think it primarily happens to people who live in warmer climates though. Something to consider.

But the cost of the Terra G's were much cheaper until recently. Appears BFG came down around $40/tire recently + the rebate going on.
