I am towing a 12,000 lb 5th wheel with my 2004 LLY on stock tires. I am considering replacing these with larger ones. 265's seem like a no brainer, but can I go to 285's or is this pushing it too far?

My 5er is a little over 10K and I towed it with my 285's, you will feel the loss of power unless you have power adders. I have some 245's now that I run in the summer to tow with. I like the way it tows stock, it changed the power alot, and the mileage went into the toilet.

Unless you add some power stick with the stockers or 265's cause 6 tons is a good chunk of weight and 285's are going to make ya lug alittle. A hypertech and exhaust aren't that expensive for some good safe power with the bigger tires.

Your towing pretty heavy, what kind of truck? Changing the tire diameter effectively changes the final gear ratio. The stock tire sizes are chosen in consonance with the GVWR/GCWR. If your going to tow in mountainous or hilly terrain 265's will negatively impact your towing, 285's even moreso. :o:

You can add additional power/torque but this comes with additional heat/stress on engine/tranny components. Have you weighed your 5ver fully loaded, all axles? Your crunching 20k lbs+. If you power up figure on exhaust upgrade to offset higher EGT's, tranny cooler, and gauges to keep an eye on things if you haven't already installed them.

Several DP members kept their stock tires/rims for towing and use the "bling blings" the rest of the time. Good discussion. JJ :)

Thunderbead,

Dang bro, I thought I love my D'Max as much as anyone but 27 pictures? :D Nice truck, needs mo' mods! Start with MBRP 4" with 5" SS tip(s), really trims out the truck nicely. Enjoy! JJ :)
