I have a friend with an '03 1500 Silverado with a blown 4.8 the dealer refuses to warranty. Since he's already paying for the new engine we thought about going to a 5.3 or 6.0. The truck is a 5spd and we're not looking for anything radical, the simpler the better. He's just looking for a little more oomph than stock with maybe some simple upgrades in the future. Can anybody tell me what year engines to look for and what parts we'll need from the donor vehicle. Thanks for your help in advance.

The best place to ask that question is www.ls1tech.com.
IIRC, the 4.8/5.3/5.7(LS1, car)/6.0(truck) all have high interchangeability with each other. Main difference that causes a problem is models that have electronic throttles.
I would go for the 6.0 Truck, should be bolt-in, and will require tuning his existing PCM to get the fuel/air correct.

I was 99% sure it was a bolt in if we used a truck motor. I was just concerned about all the small details. It's highly unlikely a manufactuer would let it be a direct swap by design.

Don't if the nv3500 trans will take a 6.0 HP long though
