Newbie here great site. I would have done a better search but I'm short on time so thanks in advance for any help.

I've have never had an EGT gauge before until now. I just got done installing the Autometer Cobalt digital in the passenger exhaust manifold. I actually see higher EGT's with out my trailer hooked up then with it hooked up. Unhooked the highest EGT I saw was 950* and with the Trailer ( 26ft Enclosed w/o a car ) I saw 900*. My mods are a 5" Exhaust, Airraid intake and P.P.E. hand held with their 90HP tune. Is this right?

I'm assuming that's in deg F, if so that would seem reasonable. Depends on your ambient conditions, up here in the cold north I get about 700-800 in the winter months.

Hehe wait till you hit a hill and see that puppy peg 1400. As I run EFILive I cannot comment on normal temps with the PPE, but I will say this be easy with that go pedal and a 90HP tune when you're towing. Alli will not like you otherwise.

The air temps were in the mid 50's. I was wondering about using the 90hp tune. Am I more concerned about the EGT's with that tune or should I switch to the base upgrade tune. This thing is getting crap MPG.

You should notice a decrease in EGT's when you lower the HP. I run about 75 HP with EFILive and get reasonable MPG 18-20 MPG, I have seen as high as 24. The max EGT I have seen is about 1250, pulling through the hills.

Really the answer to your question is what do you want? I would play with the settings to see what works best for you.

It seems when I run the lower setting the MPG get's worse. I just want to know the EGT gauge is pretty close. I don't want to kill the motor. The other thing I noticed was my EGT's go down when I accelarate harder. That doesn't make sense to me.

Have you checked your wiring? The thermo-couple has a + and - reversing these could cause what you are seeing. However on startup the gauge would read high due the reversal.

It's all correct. The Cobalt digital's harness plugs directly into the back of the gauge. Then it has a red/black/ white ( dimming ) red is powered and black is ground. It acts normal except for the dropping on a heavy throttle.

I'm going to test the probe on the gauge as soon as I get a chance. It just doesn't make sense because it seems to work normal then decrease which is wierd.

Dropping when you accelerate is not right. Mine always increases, how much depends on how much lead is in my foot at the time :)

I would still go back and check the connections, your only dealing with millivolts any bad connection will drop the voltage.

Yeah, I'm going to double check the connections and then test the prob's millivolts.
