I have just recently bought a 2001 with the 6.6l duramax. I am new to the diesel gig and am looking for some advice. Everything seems fine for now, except when I come to a complete stop and the weight transfers back to the rear end after the stop, there is a small jerk. It also happens when I lightley accelerate from a stop, kinda like it is taking slop out of some where. I got under the truck and rocked it back and forth and the drive shafts aren't really moving, but something is clunking in the transmission and I think that is what I am feeling. Is this normal or what do you guys think it could be?? The truck has 104,000 miles on it and appears to be well maintained. I also am not sure if it has been checked for the injector problem that I have heard so much about.

I forgot to mention that it is a 2 wheel drive. Sorry. Thanks for the thought.

might be the spider gears in the rear mine have some slope in them at 145000 miles. i'd take the rear cover off and check things out it might even be in the ring and pinion and thats not hard to adjust. Then you'll know what shap the rear is in, and then put it back together fill it up with oil and then check it a couple of days later to make sure it's still full.

Lube the splines on the yoke of the driveshaft where it goes into the transmission. Lube it real good, and it will go away I promise!

Yep thats your prob. Just did mine again last weekend. This time I used CV shaft/joint grease. We will see if its better than the Lucas Red and Tacky.

Thanks for all the help guys!! I will do that this weekend. I am a little skiddish about all of this because I know very little. Forums like this are going to prove to be very beneficial for me. I appreciate all the help.

I had them replace the carrier bearing before I bought it and I checked the u-joints. The u-joints seemed to be ok.

Should I be nervous about the injector issues that I have heard about??
