: Fernco resonator delete question

I deleted my resonator with the 2" fernco cap. I was just wondering how tight the stainless band clamp needs to be. On the label, it says to tighten to 60 inch-lbs. (equating to 5 ft-lbs), which is what I did, but it seems to be excessively tight, to the point where rubber on the cap is being grated by the band. Are you guys just hand-tightening? I know this is a minor question, but I'm very anal about my truck and didn't want any unfiltered air or anything coming in. Could you please advise? Thanks, guys.

I just got my questions answered. Apparently I made too big of a deal about it and there isn't much risk of it coming off. Thanks guys.

Wow, thats the first Ive heard of torquing hose clamps. Better safe than sorry I guess...

It was the spec that was on the label, but from a practical standpoint, it ends up as too tight. I think the spec was meant strictly for a plumbing application. I ended up just hand tightening with a flathead, such that the cap felt snug and didn't have any play. In retrospect, it was kind of comical adjusting the clamp with my torque wrench. :D

This mod is a complete waste of time, but at least you have a nice looking rubber plumbing cap sticking out like a sore thumb everytime you open your hood :)

Performance wise I would agree. Protection wise, I disagree. With as much emphasis as we put on protecting components of the engine (synthetic oils, additional fuel filtration, bypass oil filtration, mountains of info on air filtration) why chance anything going through the turbo that came through a cracked resonator? Anyways, if you dont like the cap you could use the expandable plug and then put the resonator back over it to maintain stock look.

My resonator fits nicely over the quick cap thats blocking off the hole. Looks completely stock.

I had heard such stories about the resonator cracking along the top and it was cheap insurance against that happening. C'mon, Hemi, you know it's a sexy mod:D:p:

Where can I get the expandable plug?

If you can find a local plumbing supply house like for comericial plumbers then they will have what is called a test plug. usually yellow with a wing nut on top. i recommend a second nut on top as a lock nut. Hate to see a bolt drop in the intake. Then you can pop the resonator back on for looks.
