: AC compressor on when not commanded???

The new truck has some quirks that I am getting used to... My 03 would never command the AC compressor when it wasn't wanted (except for defrost mode). The new 05 I can hear the compressor kicking on and off.

I have (and had) the digital climate control on the trucks, and the way that I normally run them is to have the AC off. On the 03, that was the snowflake with the line through it. On the 05, that is no snowflake at all. I usually run them on front vents, or the split between front vent and floor.

Even with no snowflake, I still have the AC compressor cycling about once every minute for a few seconds.

If you all could let me know if yours does this, that would be great. The next question I'll ask is how to make it stop!

IMO, this is a main reason that MPGs are as low as they are. Many don't realize that the AC sucks down the fuel.

Later, Nass.

Mine does this also. It seems that if you have the inside circulation mode activated, the AC compressor will come on. You have to place it in the outside air mode and turn the AC switch off.--Ken

Outside air mode is on (no light on the recirc button) and no frosty snowflake on the display. Even with this, it still is cycling...

I just want it to do what I want, not what it thinks I want!!!

I believe its related to the LED style climate system... my 03 1500 HD SLT gasser did the same thing you've described..... my 05 LLY with the little manual sliders for driver/pass. does not do it.

There is a wiring connector on the compressor that you should be able to unhook to stop it from kicking on. I don't know if this could hurt any thing I do it at a joke at work.

I believe with the illimination or freon and I can't think of the replacement gas but anyway. the supplied new gas must circulate. If you let it stagnate the compressor will seize.

The new R-134a refrigerant has been used for years now and I had never heard that....

As for the connection at the compressor, I am thinking I have to install my own assurance switch to guarantee no compressor cycling. It should benefit me by slight power increase and slight MPG increase.

it just sucks, because my 03 did not have this "feature".

any other thoughts?????

Well maybe you just think you know what you want it to do and the computer really does know what you want it to do. ):h

:funnypost Must be the connection between the asshairs and the seat...

Read somewhere that the compressor operates when auto climate is on as it is in either a heat or A/C mode all the time. Only below some (don't remember the number) temp does the compressor cease to operate. Said the heater will increase humidity so A/C will operate in conjunction with heater to dry out the cabin air. For what it's worth. Keeps windows from fogging up like in the older cars.

Hmmm... Thanks guys. Like I said before, I just want the truck to do what I want it to do. No funny stuff.

No funny stuff.

What do you mean no funny stuff ?

Do I amuse you ?

Am I funny to you ?

Do I make you laugh ?

Am I a clown ?

Am I a funny guy ?

 I couldn't resist

I heard the AC kicks on to keep things in circulation and to keep the system active. I heard leaving it set without the circulation is what kills the seals in the pumps etc.

Just what i heard at an AC survice place.

I have an 02 lb7 and it does the same thing. It is not automatic/led just the standard knobs. If you turn the fan on with the system in recirc. it will cycle the ac compressor even if you don't have the ac button pressed and lit up.

This is a real pain in the desert if it is cold you can't run the heater without the ac compressor being, unless you want fresh air which in turn brings in the dust.

Anyone you has a fix it would be really appreciated.

My fix will include a switch that I will mount near the AC controls that simply opens the circuit to the compressor. It just means two wires out to the AC compressor from the IP area. Simple cut and splice into the control wires, and walla, no more compressor.
