: Can I run on mexican diesel?
CZAAZ 03-20-2009, 05:18 PM The salesman said absolutley positively no on running mexican diesel, said it would mess up my engine. I dont go to far into Mexico, but Im wondering if I im down there and need to fill it up halfway would it be bad? Can I take some adative to help?
mmangels22 03-20-2009, 05:20 PM if its compliant ULSD, you should have no problems.
GaryK 03-20-2009, 06:03 PM I've read on other threads where others have used it in limited quantities. I would think a steady diet would clog the DPF in a heartbeat.
CZAAZ 03-20-2009, 06:27 PM Thanks I searched it. Shouldve done that before posting.

I would be careful that mexican diesel can be spicy.
Ted White 03-22-2009, 12:06 PM Here's a recent link where I posted an update on the use of Mexican diesel. There's a TON of stuff about higher sulfur fuels in the forum. Just search my name to find more.

Seann 03-22-2009, 12:14 PM Why would you want to go into that Freaking country with their crooked cops and horrible roads?... I just got back from Cabo san Lucas and will NEVER do that to my vehicle again.
Ted White 03-22-2009, 01:04 PM I'm familiar with the road to Cabo San Lucas - it's fairly narrow, and there are no shoulders in a lot of places, but for the most part the surface is fairly good. I'm therefore a bit puzzled by your comments about the road. On the Mainland, there are many toll freeways that are excellent to travel on, and in better condition than the I-10 where it runs through some of the southern states. In places like Puerto Vallarta you simply can't beat the weather through winter - from November until April you don't get a drop of rain and it is sunny, 85 degs, every single day. As for the cops, we've never had any contact with them so I can't say from personal experience that they are more corrupt than anywhere else. Sounds like you had a bad experience in Mexico but there are tens of thousands of Snowbirds who go into Mexico and have a great time. There are lots of Mexico discussions at www.rv.net. Click on Forums, and then choose the Mexico forum from the drop-down box.
GaryK 03-22-2009, 01:44 PM Used to do the Baha 1000 with a friend(he raced jeeps and had a crew of about 20), did it several times in the late 80's early 90's. We usually based in Encinada (sp?) some of the races went as far as LaPaz. WE never went out alone at night, always paid the fine for any MV stop in the street, you did not want to go to the Police Station to meet the "Chief". A few guys did managed to get mugged but all in all, I would go back in a heart beat., great weather, cheap food and lodging....the fuel there does suck though, even the gasoline smells like crude oil.
Ted White 03-22-2009, 01:56 PM GaryK, the fuel quality in Mexico has changed dramatically since the 80's. There's no distinguishable difference these days between the gasoline sold by Pemex and the stuff we can get in the USA and Canada.
12ga diesel 03-22-2009, 02:11 PM From what I know, Mexico has decent fuel, but it is NOT ULSD. They still use LSD. So running it all the time in a LMM, would not be the best thing you could do for your truck. But a tank or two won't hurt you. The DPF might want to Regen a little more then normal, but for a short term deal, you won't hurt the engine.
Ted White 03-22-2009, 02:26 PM 12 Ga Diesel, go back 5 posts in this thread and click on the link I placed there to get information about the use of LSD as opposed to ULSD.
All of the EPA and manufacturer testing shows that NO HARM is done to the emissions system if higher sulfur fuels are used for less than 40,000 continuous miles. The evidence is scientific and has been proven correct for the great many owners who have used higher sulfur fuels. In fact, the 2008 Dodge even says in the owners manual that no harm will be done using higher sulfur fuels even though the use of higher sulfur fuels is illegal. It's illegal for emissions reasons, nothing to do with the ability of the engine to handle it.

Glad to know that, we used to have to bring a couple cases of octane booster to keep the chase vehicles running OK

I have family that lives over there. I usually dont have problems when I go down there. Roads can be bad but these trucks should be able to handle it.
