: diesel maintenance
TWEAK 04-17-2005, 09:09 PM OK.........I'm a diesel beginner......I bought a 2003 duramax/allison with 50k on it so my wife can tow her horses around when I go to Iraq in 20 days....I want to change all the fluids and am pretty confident I can do it with the help of this site....my question is, will I be able to get all the fuel, and transmission filters from my chevy dealer or will they look at me like I'm from the special olympics.
SethMcKinney 04-17-2005, 09:11 PM Here's an excell spreadsheet of dmaxallitech's maintenance schedule.
See below -- I didn't make this, but found it through searching.

Don't know where you are stationed, and w/ opsec/persec I don't really care. Napa in alaska has an awesome military discount, and some autozones do as well. Walmart and any big truck place will have cheap oil for the truck as well.

BTW: Keep your head down. Don't know where you'll be at, but I'm going to the sandbox soon as well. Stay save and keep that nug on a swivel. RLTW!

BH in AZ 04-18-2005, 02:39 AM You should be able to get the fuel filter and the transmission spin-on filter from a Chevy dealer, but you may end up paying a premium price.
Chevy wants about 26 bucks for the Allison trans filter, but you can get it from an Allison dealer for about 9 bucks.
Chevy wants about 44 bucks for the new double pleated fuel filter, but the supporting vendors on this site sell it for around 30 bucks. It appears all of the different makes of the fuel filter are made by Racor, and are the same. Only the logo printed on the outside of the can is different. The same filter is marketed under the names of AC Delco, Napa, Baldwin, Wix and Racor. Here is a link to the various fuel filters:

Eric at GMDieselTech.Com should have all that you need for less money than what you may have to pay at the dealer.
Autozone sells the AC/Delco oil filter for about 9 dollars. They also have the Mobil 1 303 filter for about 11 dollars.
As far as fluids, Costco sells Chevron Delo motor oil for diesels. Eric has the GM "grape juice for the rear end. Many use Mobil 1 gear lube instead. It is much less expense than the GM product.
Hope this answers your question somewhat. Take care over there.
Shortcut 04-18-2005, 02:46 AM ....my question is, will I be able to get all the fuel, and transmission filters from my chevy dealer or will they look at me like I'm from the special olympics.Yes on all above. All Chevy stealers I have been too have sold fuel filter air filter and tranny filter. Maybe check AutoZone or Wallys for fluids as spoolinturbo said. Last I checked AutoZone didn't carry the fuel filter or oil filter but it’s been a few years since I've used stock oil or air filters. They may still look at you like your in the special olympics but I think it's from some speciallized customer service training.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
