I have heard rumors of Toyota coming out with a diesel for the American market again. Is there any truth to the rumor? My local dealer can not give me a straight answer.:help:

I saw a brief paragraph written up in Motor Trend a couple of issues ago. Supposed to be a 3/4 ton type truck with a turbo diesel. If I recall, the article mentioned the 2007 model year as the introduction.

Toyota is entering one of the last remaining strong-holds that the American manufactures have as their exclusive domain. Should only help to improve the offerings from everyone.

check out the Hino (Toyota) truck site...engines have LOW POWER, I sent an e mail to Hino regarding their low power (as compared to Cummins)...no answer yet. For their sake I hope they dont install a POS as shown on their medium duty page.

Toyota rarely puts out a failure of a product. Even if it's under powered, I'm curious to see it in the flesh...I mean metal.

Toyota can and does make a boo-boo now and then ,the 2.7 engine in the Tacoma 4x4 is a POS with a automatic, I had a 2001 with only 10k on it and it would downshift if it even sensed a hill coming up.

Best mileage ever obtained was barely 17 mpg in the summer never running over 65 w/out a/c,worst was in the winter at 13 running same speed.
I absolutely loved the truck except for the mileage, it was worse than a V/6 for mileage.
Thats the reason I now drive a 2004 VW GOLF TDI, average mpg 45
If Toyota ever offers a diesel in the Tacoma I will be knocking on their door.

since when can you get a tacoma with a diesel? You can't here in North America ... yet. The 2.7 L-4 80K0106.5 referred to is a gasser. I'll bet Toyota will offer the diesel Taco soon after we get USLD - and we won't here much about it until it shows up on dealer lots.

If GM's management is smart:rolleyes: , they'll hustle now to get a good small diesel engine into the Canyon / Colorado line and offer some real domestic competition in small trucks... A good small truck with high MPG would help GM bigtime with its bankruptcy issues. Otherwise it will be Toyota takes all.

one problem they very relay are smart(gm management) and the colorado needs more than a diesel it needs a whole redesign and toyota rules that class and I think allways has

i cant wait and see what they put out casue they helped change high end cars for the better and fullsize truck need a over haul like that
