My truck seems to smoke more on startup when it is cold than it used to. Today was about 5 C, so it is starting to warm up with spring but even today after sitting all day, it smoked till it warmed up. It has 4" exhaust, no cat, pcv reroute, blocked egr and an efi tune. I don't believe the tune does much if anything down at low rpm to induce the smoke.
What are some things that I can check other than balance rates?

Don't know if it is anything to worry about. Mine smokes until it is warm, and always has. Do you use any kind of fuel additive?

Normal for the D-Max. All of them do it.

I just use some 2 stroke, but I think I am on my second fill without any to see if it made a difference.
As mentioned, the reason I was starting to worry is that it seems as though it does it more than it used to.

Just wait until your high idle engages at -20...either that your going through traffic also known as a lane maker. Smoke out the entire lane next to you.

Exactly. When people were walking by the sidewalk at the end of the day, I got a few scowls as people had to walk through the cloud. I checked the balance rates today and they look fine.

"cold smoke", unspent diesel mist. All CI engines do it before warmup.
BTW, it is a respiratory and eye irritant.
