: switched to Edge EZ.....not Juice
maxtotow 04-17-2005, 02:01 PM well, the post I started on the VA Smartbox led me to this.....
Does anyone actually have the Edge EZ on a GM product?
Do you like it? any problems with it?
OC_DMAX 04-17-2005, 03:18 PM The Edge EZ is a relatively new product. I'd be surprised if too many people have one.
It looks to be essentially a Juice (I suspect the internals are identical --- a guess on my part). They just limit the number of tunes and the ability to interface to the Attitude monitor. Looks like a marketing thing, trying to create two tiers of product --- EZ competes with flash tuners (in the $400 area) while Juice/Attitude is being positioned as more of a top end product.
McRat has one but he hasn't had time to play with it yet
Kennedy 04-17-2005, 04:07 PM Very nice, simple box. I've run 580 miles one way with this unit and it worked excellent. I have yet to do any decent towing with it, but the little that I have, it worked well also.
DavesDmax 04-17-2005, 04:52 PM John,
Isn't that just the old edge without the monitor? Or, is the mapping a little different.
Kennedy 04-18-2005, 10:05 AM I'll have to go to the dyno plots and see how the curves compare, but as I understand it is a unique piece. It has the green plug which it uses to switch levels only.
DavesDmax 04-18-2005, 12:26 PM John,
I was just curious as to how the Juice, (no attitude), compared to the EZ in regards to operation and mapping.
For want I would like to do, (towing), I just want to have an idea of what would be more cost effective.
Ridge Runner 04-18-2005, 01:36 PM Go to the EDGE web site it will tell you the difference between the Juice and EZ.
There is a difference. You know you want a Juice so just do it:ro)
RickDLance 04-18-2005, 02:09 PM I have one. Very simple and smooth. No tranny protection. Egt's a little high, but not as bad as the predator. Seams very allison friendly as far as shifts. Basicly seams like a cheaper version of the juice. Adjustable on the fly is nice.
DavesDmax 04-18-2005, 06:17 PM Rick,
How's the on-the-fly adjustment work? Is it like other boxes with in-cab selectable switch?
Did you ever have the opportunity to compare to the non-attitude Juice module in regards to towing performance?
RickDLance 04-19-2005, 09:59 AM It is a simple 3 position switch like the Van Aaken. Very smooth transition from the differant levels.
I could never get the Juice to work on my LLY without coughing. I think they have that problem fixed now. I will try 1 as soon as I get a chance.
McRat 04-19-2005, 11:03 AM If you are buying one for stacking, beware.
I put it on yesterday, and it immediately started throwing P1093's. JUST CRUISING! Not even 1/4 throttle and it would throw it. Threw them every 100 yards.
RickDLance 04-19-2005, 05:48 PM I stacked 1 with my Predator and it was BAD! No codes, but it did cough hard. Might get better, but I did'nt take the chance. May play with it on the 05 soon.
The new fuel filters also seam to make the 1093 code more likely for me. One of my trucks was giving me that code and I put an old style filter on it . No more codes.
Newtorving 04-26-2005, 01:00 AM Hey guys, anybody playing with the EZ by itself? A few of us are interested in this box for towing.
chucker 04-26-2005, 06:18 AM I just installed the Ez Box last week, I have at most 300 miles on it. I towed my dump trailer ( about 6,000 loaded) approx. 20 miles. It does wake up the engine in any setting and about 2200 rpm she comes on strong more so in 2nd and 3rd setting. I installed the egr blocker plate saturday, and the finger stick last night.
Talk to john at DPS, he has a money back guarantee.
I am new to LLy thing and I had a furd before with an 80 hp bullydog. The allison still shifts funny to me. the furd would bang between shifts, so im not a good reference.
Talk to John..

RickDLance 04-27-2005, 10:48 AM I have mine on and I'm towing now. It seems like they have got it pretty soft at lower rpm. I would guess this makes it more tranny friendly. It does smoke some. I think it's helping my mpg a little. This is on my 05 and I have not got a good baseline yet.

My comments in the LLY EZ dyno results by McRat.
INHO, it's a great value compared to the Juice when a guy wants something simpler. The low tunes could be lowered a bit, but they are same as Juice 1,2,3...
