: Taking my baby to the shop
trailshredder 03-18-2009, 10:14 AM Taking the LB7 to the shop to have it diagnosed for white smoke at idle. Sure hoping it is an injector cup or rail pressure sensor and not injectors. Injectors were done once at 90K and now have 140K. I change the fuel filter every 10K with a napa gold or AC Delco and use 2-stroke oil in warm season and Stanadyne in the cold season. Guess I am saying that I try to make sure the fuel is good before it gets to the injectors. Wish me and my wallet luck! I'll keep you posted!
Horsehaulin 03-18-2009, 10:20 AM Good luck buddy, hope all goes well for the truck.
chevyman33 03-18-2009, 12:03 PM Sorry to change the subject but do you additive, like 2 stroke oil everytime you fill up?
Tolliwacker 03-18-2009, 03:10 PM Good luck with it, how is the transfer case doing?
I just had the smoke at idle and low power, it was the injectors. at least it was covered! Truck runs the best it has in a LOOOONG TIME,

Thanks Tolli. Yes, case has been holding up beautifully! My injectors won't be covered. GM has a clause in there that says they aren't covered under the extended warranty, if they were replaced under the original 100K warranty, which they were at 90K.
Tolliwacker 03-18-2009, 09:48 PM That is wrong, total BS, so go to a different dealer!
There is NOTHING about how many sets you get, so shop around.
Or are you outside the 7 years part?
Glad to hear the T-case is doing well!

Was told the 7 year was from the purchase date, which was may of 02. I got a month and a half. I'll see what they tell me. Hoping it is just a leaky cup or o-ring.
trailshredder 03-25-2009, 04:12 PM I ended up taking it to purrformance diesel in Fredericktown, OH. Their rates were lower since it was looking like it wasn't going to be covered under warranty. They called today and said they were able to get the injectors covered under warranty! Get this, they are taking it to the same dealer that told me they couldn't do mine to begin with! He thinks the injector pump might be bad though too. At least the injectors are getting covered though! Anyone ever do an injector pump?
trailshredder 04-07-2009, 03:32 PM Just an update. Not being covered under warranty because return rates are within spec. Getting #2 injector replaced for now. I am going to attemp doing the pump later on myself. Anyone have any DIY's or tips on doing that would, as always, be very much appreciated. They claim the pump is only putting out about 18,000 psi and it should be 24,000 (I think they said). Said it would be ok to run that way until the engine demanded more than 18,000 psi of fuel pressure. Then it would limp and throw a code.

Bullshit. Fight them.
Curious about your batteries. Have you replaced them? When?
110crash 04-07-2009, 08:43 PM You need to get a print out of the warranty on the injectors and bring it to them and show them that they are covered.

No after reading another thread though. I am considering replacing both batteries and cleaning up all my grounds.
trailshredder 04-08-2009, 10:27 AM I have done several searches on a DIY for injector pump replacement to no avail. Anyone aware of one?
superpro56 04-08-2009, 10:41 AM What about a lift pump install as an alternative? Maybe by relieving some of the work of the CP3 you can maintain commanded rail pressure, probably cheaper too. It would be a good mod none the less and if it fixed the rail pressure issue you could save the hassle of the changing the pump. If it didnt fix the problem, well at least you never have to worry about priming issues...

yeah, I am considering that anyway, just for comfort of eliminating air in the fuel. Looking at the airdog or the fass. Not sure if it would help the pressure though.
nate_powell 04-11-2009, 09:14 AM Let us know th outcome as my truck is doing the same thing. Dealer told me I need a new pump. What was the balance rate on the #2 injector?
Wardster 04-13-2009, 01:13 PM I am curious as to which dealer in central Ohio you took it to. I have an appointment set up for Wednesday at Bobby Layman on Broad St. (but I will cancel the appointment if you went there first).
Thanks
