I recently replaced my cab corners and rockers, and I am in need of paint. Any suggestions where to get the paint for a reasonable price. I'm sure the dealer charges a fortune. By the way I am just painting the lower tone on the cab.

Thanks!

Around here there is some local NAPA , Finishmasters, Sherwin Williams, not sure what you would have around you, but look for a local chain paint store that would help you get the right paint. Most can color match your existing paint or your color code will be in the glove box, go to paintchip.com to verify, they have codes for most vehicles made. If you have a non metalic paint a single stage urethane would be a good choice for durablilty, if your a metallic, two stage is easier. Enamels would be a cheaper alternative, but not as good as a urethane. Good luck, make sure to use an epoxy on any bare metal you may have

Yep I found the RPO code for the paint(96L), I go to napa often, I will check what they have. It is a metallic paint so I will look for the 2 stage urethane. Can you be more specific with the epoxy, this body work stuff is all new to me.

Epoxy Primer, is a two part primer used to etch to any bare metal, or to seal other layers of paint or fillers. It's a non sandable primer. If you have all your major body work done, fillers, sanding out paint chips, etc. , sand all your existing paint and have it cleaned, I would epoxy to seal existing paint and etch bare metal, use a urethane sanding primer about 2-3 coats, sand with 400 wet, repeat to where you are happy with the smoothness of the areas, one coat of sealer, then apply your color and clear

Oh, and also check with the paint store about adding a flex additive if you are painting your flares

Good luck, I just got done repainting the bottom of my truck, from rubstrip down, on both sides and replaced my bottom door skin drivers side, my 96 2500 has about the same miles. Might want to check behind the rubber strip along the inside of door, its prone to rusting there, easy to repaint while your already at it, let me know if you got any more questions
