: front diff fluid yellow
h8nopi 04-16-2005, 04:19 PM Got 1020 on the odometer and changing all the fluids. Went to drain the front diff fluid and its yellow:eek: . Looked at my vent tube and its got the white plastic attachment. Is this still ok to put the mobil 1 75W90 syn. in or does it take something else? Also is something F***ed up HELP!!!
h8nopi 04-16-2005, 04:57 PM any ideas anybody can I put new fluid in?????????
Turbotug 04-16-2005, 05:02 PM New fluid has a yellow tint to it. Open one of the new bottles you have and compare. You should be OK. Just changed mine today to M1 75W90 also, but I have 26K. I did change the rear as rec., and again today when I installed the Mag-Hytec diff cover.
Thunderhead7 04-16-2005, 05:02 PM any ideas anybody can I put new fluid in????????? You should be OK with changing to synthetic gear oil.
h8nopi 04-16-2005, 05:05 PM Only thing is it was really yellow not just a tint to it. The rear with supposidly the same fluid was slightly black no yellow tint to it at all. If it'll be ok to go ahead and change it that's great and glad I changed it cause the 75w90 looks like new oil ought to.
h8nopi 04-16-2005, 05:07 PM Sorry the new isn't yellow at all and looked kindof milky like it had water in it.
Turbotug 04-16-2005, 05:52 PM The rear fluid will be kinda black, the breaking in of the diff. and the "locker". The new oil should not be milky or cloudy. Are all the bottles like that? I'd be hesitant to use them if they are. If possible I'd take them back to the store and get different ones. I just checked the left over fluid I had from today, yellow tint and clear all 12 bottles. It should look like new motor oil.
h8nopi 04-16-2005, 06:26 PM No, not the new oil the oil that was actually drained out of the diff looked that color the new mobil 1 looks perfect. Had a little left over out of the 4 bottles for the rear and used that to push as much out of the front as possible.
Turbotug 04-16-2005, 06:38 PM If the oil that came out of the front was milky it's good you changed it. Water in a Diff. case is not good, and oil is cheap.
9W3-HD 04-16-2005, 08:29 PM the white vent doesnt mean the diff had syn in it from the factory does it? I understood that you could put syn in if u had a white cap, but factory fluid was just reg gear oil. BTW, this really isnt an emergrency

Your correct, I thought that was the case, but I was wrong, see this thread

Turbotug 04-16-2005, 09:18 PM BTW, this really isnt an emergrencyShould you drive a vehicle w/o gear oil? NO. Was his w/o oil? Yes
Emergency? Not really. Was his truck "Down"? Yes!

sammy 04-17-2005, 01:21 AM I changed my front diff fluid today for the first time, which was also a yellow/puke color. I assume it is normal. I cannot imagine how water could get in the front diff. Mine was never submerged.
