: Help me decide! 35's or 37's

I need new tires, after my lift was installed my tires look like they belong on a Civic. Currently I have 305/70/17 Buckshot Mudders which measure out to be a 34 by their website. My lift is only a 6" and my torsion bars aren't cranked, but it seems huge. I have ~14" of clearance from the top of the tire, to the fenderwell. Also, I have the ARB replacement bumper, and the bottom of the bumper doesn't even make it to the top of the tire. From the front you can see the entire tire.

I'm looking at a set of 37/12.5 Yokohama Geolander M/T's, which I think I could fit, but I'm also looking at a set of Procomp Xterrians. I just don't want to order tires, and they show up and either be too big, or too small.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I see you've got 37's with a 7" lift. I could crank my bars up to an 8" lift, I'm still at stock cv angles right now.

Check garage, 6" cranked to 7.5 with 37's and if you go with a 12.5 tire you will have an easier time clearing them.

You had to trim the rear fenders? What size block are you running in the back?

Love that look, is there anyway you could tell me how much clearance you have between the top of the tire and the fenderwell?

not to change the subject.......but were you stock with those 305?70/17? I just got a set of H2s but I'm pondering what tires to get. My truck is leveled but that's it.

There are also other things to consider besides clearance. I am in the same boat as you (6" set at 7.5" and my 35's look so little it's retarded).

Anyway, I have been doing a lot of research, and many people claim that the 35" to 37" change is a BIG one as far as handling and performance. I keep reading that you will lose a lot of low end performance, and your MPG's basically go to crap. It is apparently almost mandatory that you regear when going to a 37. The thing is, also I know lots of guys who have done it, and say the power loss is minimal, and the MPG's don't drop that much. I don't know whether the guys that are against it are just very anal about any change in their trucks performance, or if it's legit.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. I've noticed slower acceleration going from the stock 245's to my 305's, but I still get ~19.5 mpg weekly. It would almost be worth it to me, to lose a couple mpg's and fill up my fenderwells.

I did the re-gear at the same time as the lift and tires, I will tell you that I believe those that are seeing crap gas mileage are probably towing alot or in city type traffic. If you did alot of on highway driving and not alot of towing I do not see where the tires and 3.73 gears would be a MPG problem. I personaly wish they would come out with 4.30 gears. that would put 37's to exactly where the rpms were factory with stock tires and gears. I tac about 150 higher at 70 MPH with the 4.56's than I did stock.

Wish I had a 6 speed ally.
