when the truck first starts up, and even when its warm, and i really don't have my foot into the throttle, the transmission kinda "pops the clutch" (atleast that is what it feels like) when it shifts every once and a while. It'll shift into gear, the engine will kinda cut out for a split second, and then its like a quick surge. don't really feel anything like a jolt, but you can hear it. It never happens when i put my foot into it, above 2,000 rpms, but it does happen alot when i'm driving normal around town. any ideas??

Is this only when it is in park? Or is this as you shift it into gear?

Is there a specific speed (vehicle of engine) that this happens at? Or anything else that is common when this happens?

i would say probably between 5-35 mph. and this is the only thing that happens that i have noticed so far. when i'm going up a hill sometimes, and the engine looses rpm's and needs to downshift, the tranny kinda hesitates the shift, almost like it doesn't know what gear to shift to.

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Spin on tranny filter?
You've got me scratching my head here with what you have described.

fuel filter is changed every 10,000 miles...i noticed it when i bought the truck at 50,000, i changed the allison spin on...thought that might be it, but didn't help it ...just turned 100,000 and its still doing it. wouldn't say it has necessary gotten worse, but i'm scratching my head also...since it's hard to describe, i might take it to the dealer and let them drive it, but i really don't have the extra $$ to spend $80/hr to diagnose the problem. i haven't changed the fluid since i've owned the truck, maybe that?? I'm trying to get a honest answer on what kind of fluid to put in a '02 allison. ATF dextrol?? or synthetic 10W-30??

Have you driven other similar trucks???? reason I ask, is this may be normal de-fueling between shifts.
But what do I know, I'm a Dmax rookie myself.

I wish I could understand what you are experiencing better. I'm gonna keep thinking on it.
